Hinkelton kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is '2001 A Space Odyssey' Theme . Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Trent Hinkelton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Satoshi Sato!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hinkelton gets a takedown into half guard.
Sato trying to control but Hinkelton postures up.
Hinkelton stalling.
Sato is looking to improve his position.
Hinkelton not doing much here.
Hinkelton has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Trent Hinkelton wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Hinkelton bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee asks Hinkelton politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hinkelton prefers to stall for the moment though.
An elbow from Hinkelton crashes against the mat.
Sato wants to get back to his feet.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Hinkelton moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hinkelton advances nicely into full mount.
Hinkelton tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hinkelton throwing strikes but Sato uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Hinkelton tries to pass to full mount but Sato defends it.
Hinkelton perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Hinkelton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Trent Hinkelton wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sato fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hinkelton fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sato sprawls well initially but Hinkelton persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hinkelton thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sato's head.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hinkelton not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Sato looks gassed!
Hinkelton takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Hinkelton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sato doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hinkelton.
Hinkelton is taking a breather. Sato says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hinkelton is looking for a kimura here.

Hinkelton is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Sato is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
