Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sugen Nagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and CJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: We are the ocean-waiting room. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sugen Nagi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Nagi tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nagi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nagi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Penn.
Nagi misses with a double jab.
Nagi throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Penn tried to score with a low kick but Nagi checks it.
Nagi is looking to chop away at Penn's legs.
Penn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nagi's waist but Nagi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Penn off to one side.
Sugen Nagi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of CJ Penn.
Penn blocks a head kick by Nagi.
Penn dodges the punch combination from Nagi.
Nagi throws a head kick but Penn moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Penn misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nagi connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Nagi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Nagi decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown but Nagi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Penn's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nagi lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Penn circles away quickly and effectively.
Nagi misses with a low kick.

Penn gets caught flat footed, as Nagi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Penn controls Nagi momentarily but Nagi frees himself.

Nagi stands and steps away. Penn gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Nagi is breathing heavily.
Penn checks the leg kick nicely there.
Nagi throws a right and a left that both miss.
Penn avoids a punch combination nicely.
Penn on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Penn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nagi as he jumps to the side.
Nagi throws a combination. Penn tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
A head kick from Nagi lands but Penn takes it in his stride.

Penn misses with a strike from the bottom.
Nagi trying to control the action but Penn is working from the bottom.

Nagi is trying to get an arm triangle but Penn is defending well.
Penn tries to bench press Nagi off him but Nagi keeps the position.
Penn manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Penn working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Nagi is not content to let Penn control the position.
Penn wants to pass to mount but Nagi is defending the position.

Nagi flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Nagi has hold of Penn's hands but Penn slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Penn thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Nagi looks like he's trying to stand up.
Nagi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Penn on the ground.
Penn is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Nagi has hold of Penn's hands but Penn slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Penn is nestled in close to Nagi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nagi is in trouble now - Penn has advanced to mount!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nagi leaves Penn with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nagi but Nagi pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nagi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nagi wants it to stay on the feet.
Sugen Nagi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of CJ Penn.
Nagi throws a right hand that Penn ducks under and follows up with a left that Penn also avoids with ease.
Nagi looks to score with a jab to the body but Penn is just out of range.

Penn with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

CJ Penn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Nagi has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Penn uses from the top position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Penn shoots for a double leg takedown but Nagi sprawls well. He's pushed Penn's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nagi looks to land a body kick but Penn moved away.
Sugen Nagi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nagi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nagi tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nagi to the ground. Nagi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nagi finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Nagi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Penn is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Nagi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Nagi's back!
Nagi just trying to survive but Penn is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
