PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ruud Gullit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masakatsu Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gullit comes to the cage accompanied by We Will Rock You!. Suzuki is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Breaking Point - One of a Kind. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ruud Gullit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Masakatsu Suzuki!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paul Aken and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suzuki tries to clinch but Gullit moves away
and Gullit connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Masakatsu Suzuki has been cut.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Suzuki.
Suzuki shoots in but no luck this time.

Gullit connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Suzuki to the floor! Gullit dives in looking for the finish!

Gullit lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.


That has opened up Masakatsu Suzuki's cut even more.
Suzuki makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Suzuki.
Gullit wants to stand but Suzuki has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Gullit working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Suzuki's head.


The cut above Masakatsu Suzuki's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Suzuki manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gullit manages to get himself to full guard.
Suzuki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gullit is keeping the position for now.
Suzuki is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Suzuki slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gullit sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Gullit is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Suzuki goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Gullit turns into him and now he's in Suzuki's guard.
Gullit has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Suzuki throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gullit makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Suzuki is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Suzuki scores with a jab to the body.
Gullit throws a head kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Suzuki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gullit tries to avoid it but Suzuki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gullit to the ground. Gullit escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Suzuki passes Gullit's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gullit is refusing to be controlled, as Suzuki sits in half guard.
Suzuki wants to pass the guard but Gullit is defending well.
Suzuki is looking to take a break and control but Gullit is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gullit is trying to stand.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Suzuki throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gullit is not content to let Suzuki control the position.
Gullit moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Suzuki pushes down on Gullit's leg and manages to get into half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Masakatsu Suzuki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Gullit pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Suzuki.
Suzuki is trying to move to mount but Gullit reverses beautifully and ends up in Suzuki's guard.
Gullit with a flurry of punches that miss.

Suzuki working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gullit.
Gullit wants to get up but he can't break Suzuki's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Suzuki is on top in guard.

Suzuki tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Suzuki has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Suzuki is looking to take a break and control but Gullit is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Suzuki looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Suzuki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gullit keeps working.
Suzuki tries to move into full mount but can't pass Gullit's legs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Suzuki remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Masakatsu Suzuki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Suzuki has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
