And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Igor Vovchanyn!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Illya Tyunina and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Putin rushes Vovchanyn and presses him up against the cage.
Vovchanyn looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Putin jumps guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vovchanyn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Putin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Vovchanyn trying to stand up but can't free himself from Putin's guard.
Putin is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Putin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vovchanyn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vovchanyn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Putin is on top in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Vovchanyn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Vovchanyn can't keep his opponent in guard - Putin advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Vovchanyn wants to get back to his feet.
Putin content to control rather than advance.
Vovchanyn is trying to stand up here but Putin is controlling him well.
Putin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Vovchanyn knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Putin is tying to control. Vovchanyn wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vovchanyn tries to kick Putin off but Putin keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Putin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Vovchanyn!
Putin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Putin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Putin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Putin has hold of Vovchanyn's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Vovchanyn manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Putin looking to secure an arm triangle but Vovchanyn defends it well.
Vovchanyn is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Vovchanyn tries to hold on but Putin postures up.
Putin wants to control the pace but Vovchanyn is squirming around nicely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Putin has isolated one of Vovchanyn's arms. Vovchanyn looking to fight him off but Putin twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
