Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mercito Gesta! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zver Bortsuha! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gesta shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Gesta got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bortsuha has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gesta has managed to get both his arms back between Bortsuha's legs - danger averted. Gesta looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Bortsuha keeping moving, preventing Gesta from controlling successfully. Bortsuha wants to get back to his feet but Gesta is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Gesta forces his way into half guard. Gesta tries to stand but can't do so whilst Bortsuha controls his leg. Gesta takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Bortsuha wants to get back to full guard. Bortsuha is trying to stand back up but Gesta is controlling him
Bortsuha looking for submissions off his back. Bortsuha pushes Gesta off looking to stand but Gesta dives back in and keeps control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gesta is keen to just control but Bortsuha is a slippery customer. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bortsuha can do anything to dispel that myth. Gesta lands with a punch from half guard. Bortsuha is not content to let Gesta control the position. Gesta in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Bortsuha tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gesta!
