Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Oj Mayo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Norifumi Murakami! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Sosuke Kotani and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murakami throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Murakami looks to land a combination but Mayo avoids it well. Mayo gets the takedown into side control. Mayo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Mayo advances nicely into full mount. Murakami defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Mayo. Murakami really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mayo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mayo landing shots from mount. Murakami blocking the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayo working the ground and pound effectively.
Mayo prevents Murakami from getting the reversal. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mayo controlling from the full mount. Murakami tries to reverse the position but Mayo maintains control. Mayo sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Mayo pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Mayo. Mayo content just to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Murakami is working to get back to half guard.
Mayo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Mayo is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Mayo!
