Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ernst closes the distance but Ariullo moves to the side and Ariullo counters with a stiff right hand. Ariullo doesn't succeed with the takedown and Ernst counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Ernst has the Thai plumb, controlling the head nicely. He loads up with a big knee to the head and Ariullo goes down! Ernst pounces into side control - this one could be over soon!
Ariullo is rocked!
It looks like Freddy Ariullo has been cut. The referee asks Ernst politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ernst prefers to stall for the moment though. Ariullo tries to buck Ernst off but Ernst is having none of it. Ernst taking a breather here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ariullo tries to improve position but can't.
Paul Ernst has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Ariullo shoots and misses and Ernst counters by clinching up. Ariullo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ernst is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Paul Ernst has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Freddy Ariullo. Ariullo is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. A left hand lands to the body for Ernst.
Ariullo looks gassed! Ernst landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Ariullo takes an elbow to the forehead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ernst connects with a nasty looking knee right to Ariullo's face.
Ariullo is still on wobbly legs! Can Ernst finish him? We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ernst lands a damaging elbow. A nice glancing elbow lands by Ernst. Ernst has Ariullo pressed against the cage. He pushes Ariullo back and as he springs towards him off the cage, Ernst throws a beautiful elbow that sends Ariullo crashing to the floor! Ernst piles on the pressure with more strikes! Ariullo is flailing away but he's not defending himself and the referee steps in to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Ernst! Paul Ernst retains his middleweight title!
