Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lewis Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Micky Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward has chosen Dropkick Murphys-"Shipping out to Boston" as his entrance music. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lewis Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Micky Ward! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Wood working Ward over with strikes. Wood winds up and cracks Ward with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Wood decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Wood tries to clinch up. Wood looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Wood shoots in but Ward avoids the takedown attempt easily. Micky Ward seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ward thows a body shot but no joy. Ward swinging wildly here.

and Wood counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Wood works his way into full mount! Wood with shots to the head and body - Ward looks very uncomfortable down there. Wood has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ward holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Wood tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Wood pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ward is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Wood raining down shots from the mount! Wood working away from the top, dropping strikes. This has been an exciting period of action! Wood connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Wood postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ward looks a forlorn figure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wood landing strikes from the mount and Ward is in trouble! Ward taking shots to the head. Wood raining down shots from the mount! Wood controlling from mount. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Ward is squirming around, avoiding Wood's attempts to control the action.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wood with good strikes from the mount here! Wood content just to control the position here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wood lands a big shot there that rocks Ward but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wood shoots in looking for a takedown. Ward tries to sprawl out of it but Wood keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Ward manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Ward throws a leg kick but Wood moved away. Wood fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ward avoids it really well and circles away. Ward scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Wood tries to clinch there but Ward circles away.
A right-left combo lands from Ward. Ward misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ward scores with the left hand. Wood knows he should have avoided that one. Ward misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Wood.
Ward moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Wood closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Ward won't allow Wood to pass to mount. Ward avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Wood. Ward is not content to let Wood control the position. Wood thows a huge punch but Ward dodges it nicely.
Wood is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Wood lands a nice short elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Wood seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Wood throwing shots but Ward is blocking nicely. Ward pushes Wood off looking to stand but Wood dives back in and keeps control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Wood scoring with strikes to the body and head. Wood not doing much here.
Ward on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Wood takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lewis Wood dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

and Wood counters with a single leg into guard. Ward didn't expect that. Wood throws a big right hand that misses. Ward really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wood. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Wood stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ward swivels though and keeps the full guard. Wood slips nicely into half guard. Ward keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Wood throwing shots but Ward is blocking nicely.

Ward is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wood scores with a couple of nice shots. Wood missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Ward looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Wood decides to stand and escape the position. Ward misses with a two punch combination.
No luck for Wood with that takedown attempt. Ward pivots, looking for a leg kick but Wood is out of range and Ward settles back down. Wood checks a low kick from Ward. Ward throws a low kick, looking for Wood's leg but Wood calmly moves out of range. Ward throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wood. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Ward lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Wood has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Wood and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Ward throws a right and a left that both miss. Wood shoots in but Ward avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ward is looking to chop away at Wood's legs. Wood fails with the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lewis Wood. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ward scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Wood doesn't seem bothered though. Ward tries to sprawl but Wood drives through with a takedown into half guard. Ward pushes Wood off looking to stand but Wood dives back in and keeps control.
Ward takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Wood misses with a head shot. Ward uses the momentum to regain guard. Ward is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Wood dives into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wood is chipping away with strikes.
Wood wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ward keeps working. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Micky Ward has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Lewis Wood is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Wood decides to stand back up. Wood steps back and let's Ward get back to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! Lewis Wood showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wood, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
