PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Tequila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tequila comes to the cage accompanied by Sandstorm. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Tequila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bobby Ray!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tequila instigates a clinch.
Ray goes for a takedown in the clinch but Tequila prevents it.

Ray has picked Tequila up - he's going for a ride! Ray dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Ray is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Tequila is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ray seems to be looking for submissions.

Ray is working for a submission of some sort.
Tequila wants to get back to full guard.
Tequila is working hard here to advance position.

Tequila slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Tequila is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ray is controlling him.
Ray pushes down on Tequila's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Tequila is looking to control Ray's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tequila avoid being mounted?
Ray is trying to control. Tequila wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ray can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tequila is looking to escape.

Tequila is squirming around, avoiding Ray's attempts to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tequila is just holding on here. Ray manages to take his back.

Ray is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Tequila defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Tequila tries to break free.
Ray gets his hands free as Tequila looks to control.
Ray is landing with strikes from the back.
Tequila tries to escape but Ray has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Ray lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Ray has Tequila flattened out and is raining down punches.

Ray is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Tequila is defending well though. Ray let's go of the attempt for now.

Tequila is in bad spot here.
Tequila is breathing heavily.

Ray has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ray keeps control of the position easily here as Tequila tries to buck him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Ray dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ray doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Tequila counters with a shoot takedown. Ray fights it but they end up in guard.
Tequila postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tequila slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Tequila trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Ray lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tequila!
Ray is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Tequila can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Ray get's back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tequila looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Ray counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tequila shoots in for a takedown but Ray shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Ray fails to land with a series of punches.

Tequila gets caught flat footed, as Ray shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Ray with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Ray slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Ray remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Tequila tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ray wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Tequila takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Tequila manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Tequila is working for an americana but Ray has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Tequila was thinking about the submission.

Ray is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Ray jumps into guard, dragging Tequila to the mat.
Tequila wants to stand and escape but instead Ray has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Ray got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tequila has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ray has managed to get both his arms back between Tequila's legs - danger averted.

Ray wants to stand but Tequila has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Tequila working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ray doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ray manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ray decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Tequila tries to clinch up

and Ray counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ray.

Tequila throws his legs up looking for a submission but Ray uses it to pass to side control.

Ray decides to stand back up.
Ray throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tequila's waist but Tequila gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ray off to one side.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ray throws a nice looking combination but Tequila bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Ray gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Tequila tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ray smiles and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Ray showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ray moves into the clinch.
Ray drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tequila pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tequila ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Tequila scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Tequila in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Tequila lands an elbow.

Tequila goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ray has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Tequila but great work by Ray.
Tequila is trying to control Ray's posture but Ray avoids it.
Ray cracks Tequila with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ray trying to control the action but Tequila is working from the bottom.

Tequila wants to control but Ray postures up.
Tequila sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Tequila is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ray looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Let's hope that Ray has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Ray's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Bobby Ray wasn't active enough on the ground.
Tequila closes the distance but Ray moves to the side

and Ray counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Tequila is not content to let Ray control the position.

Ray wants to finish this one by submission but Tequila is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ray.
Ray tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Ray trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Tequila is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Bobby Ray is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ray is trying to control the action in half guard but Tequila is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Bobby Ray comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ray has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
