PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mingos Barbocius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barbocius comes to the cage accompanied by ecstasy of gold. Dan Jones is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mingos Barbocius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Jones!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones tries to sprawl but Barbocius drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Jones is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Barbocius pulls his head out easily.
Barbocius is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Jones reverses the position - he's now on top in Barbocius's guard.
Barbocius is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.
Jones wants to control from the top but Barbocius keeps moving.
Barbocius is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
It looks like Jones might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Barbocius looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Barbocius tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Barbocius controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Barbocius is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Jones off. It looks like it's working - Jones slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Barbocius displaying calm under pressure there.
Barbocius slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones moves in looking to clinch but Barbocius pushes him off.
Jones throws a nice looking combination but Barbocius bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Jones wants a takedown.
Barbocius goes for a takedown attempt but Jones pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Barbocius shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Barbocius fights it but they end up in guard.
Barbocius keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Barbocius on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Barbocius tries to get out of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barbocius wants to get back to his feet but Jones is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Jones stops Barbocius from standing up.
Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dan Jones.
Jones moves in looking to clinch but Barbocius pushes him off.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Barbocius is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
Barbocius is trying to stand up here but Jones is controlling him well.
Jones wants to take a breather but Barbocius is having none of it.
Barbocius looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Jones dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Barbocius fails with the takedown

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Barbocius fights it but they end up in guard.
Barbocius keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Jones is in close to Barbocius's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Jones works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Barbocius does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Jones prevents Barbocius from standing back up.
Jones wants to control but Barbocius is keeping him busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dan Jones.

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Barbocius is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Barbocius wants to get back to his feet but Jones passes into half guard.
Barbocius is not content to let Jones control the position.
Jones uses his free foot to push down on Barbocius's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Barbocius.

Jones controlling from the full mount.
Barbocius is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Jones trying to control but Barbocius is having none of it.
Jones content just to control the position here.

Jones wants to control the pace but Barbocius is squirming around nicely.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dan Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.
Barbocius tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Jones tries to keep at a distance but Barbocius has taken the fight into the clinch.
Barbocius goes for a takedown attempt but Jones pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mingos Barbocius. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones darts in and clinches Barbocius up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Barbocius breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barbocius gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jones holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Barbocius is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Barbocius has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Barbocius is pressed up against the cage. Jones has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Barbocius down to the mat. Barbocius avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Jones gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jones is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Barbocius can't get the takedown.
Barbocius keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.

Barbocius lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Barbocius takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barbocius swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Barbocius wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Barbocius is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jones is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Jones looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Barbocius advances position into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barbocius trying to control the action but Jones is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A lull in the action here.
Jones is trying to improve his position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Barbocius controls the position from side control.
Jones is trying to buck Barbocius off.
Barbocius scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Jones to see if he's OK.
Barbocius is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Jones will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Barbocius off and has taken his back!
Barbocius is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Jones really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Barbocius.
Barbocius holding both Jones 's hands and preventing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Barbocius manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Barbocius misses with a series of wild punches.

Barbocius looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mingos Barbocius showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
