Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Geezer Butler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has chosen Party in the USA as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Geezer Butler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Smith!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Butler throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smith tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Butler is in Smith's guard.
Smith will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Smith wants to control the position but Butler says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Butler missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Butler tries to stand and escape but Smith is controlling the position.
Smith missing with punches from the bottom.
Smith gets full guard.

Smith working for a triangle but Butler defends it easily.
Butler is stalling in the full guard.
Smith wants to sweep here but Butler controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Butler tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.
Smith feints a jab promting Butler to slip. Smith then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Butler slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Butler scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Smith looks gassed!

Smith is trying to get back to full guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Butler in particular looking to stall.
Butler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.
It looks like Butler is going to stand back up.
Butler stops Smith from getting back to his feet.
Smith on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Smith is in trouble now - Butler has advanced to mount!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Butler is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Butler breaks from Smith's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Butler manages to capitalize on a mistake by Smith to take his back!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Butler lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Smith.
Smith rolls, trying to escape but Butler keeps control of the position.
Butler controlling the position well here. Smith rolled but Butler kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Smith tries to escape but Butler has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Geezer Butler dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Butler fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Butler persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Butler seems content to control.

Butler stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Smith to get to his feet.
Smith tries for a takedown but Butler circles away easily

and Butler counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Butler manages to pull guard.
Butler has his hands on Smith's head, controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Butler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Geezer Butler wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Butler darts in and clinches Smith up against the ropes.

Butler manages to pull guard.
Butler manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Butler lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Smith hang on?

Smith squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Butler wants to finish this one by submission but Smith is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Butler.
Butler landing strikes from the mount and Smith is in trouble!

Butler scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Smith?

Butler gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Butler misses with a head kick.

Butler clinches.

Butler has picked Smith up - he's going for a ride! Butler dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Butler is controlling the pace.

Butler looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Butler stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Smith to get to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Geezer Butler dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Butler counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Butler wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
Geezer Butler overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smith looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Butler is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Butler is stalling in the full guard.
Butler has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Butler advances to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well, if Butler is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Butler is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Butler scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Butler in particular looking to stall.
Smith wants to control but Butler is keeping busy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smith is looking for a sweep. Butler is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Butler decides to return to a standing position.
Geezer Butler is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Butler shoots in and bounces Smith off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Smith wants to sweep but no luck.
Butler tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard.
Butler is working hard here to advance position.
Butler engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.
Butler is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Joe Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Smith tries to lock up and control but Butler gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Butler cracks Smith with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Smith tries to reverse the position but Butler maintains control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Geezer Butler showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Butler, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
