Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Batteryus Teho!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alan Mezias!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mezias misses with a wild combination.
Teho staying out of range there.
Mezias fails to land the takedown.

Teho gets a takedown into half guard.
Teho will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mezias tries to get to full guard but Teho has control of the leg.
Teho is taking a breather. Mezias says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mezias is staying active underneath Teho, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Teho thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mezias's head.

Teho wants to work for an arm triangle but Mezias is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Well, if Teho is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Teho is looking to advance position but Mezias won't allow it.

Teho is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Teho wants to free his trapped foot but Mezias is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Teho frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Teho tries to control but Mezias wriggling away.
Mezias is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Mezias has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Teho's lack of action.
Mezias is staying active underneath Teho, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Teho is thwarting Mezias's attempts to control the position.

Mezias moves into full guard.

Teho is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mezias defends it well.
Teho thows a huge punch but Mezias dodges it nicely.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mezias is refusing to be controlled, as Teho sits in half guard.

Teho is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Mezias has managed to free his arm - good work.
Mezias is trying to get back to full guard.

Teho seems to be looking for submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Mezias throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Teho misses with a takedown
and Mezias counters with a nice body kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Teho fails with the takedown

and Mezias counters with a nice double leg into side control. Teho won't be happy with that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alan Mezias will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Teho working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Mezias looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Teho! Submission of the night perhaps?
