Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mat Richards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Magnus Svenstroem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mat Richards!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richards changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Svenstroem tries to avoid it but Richards manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Svenstroem to the ground. Svenstroem escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Svenstroem keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Richards shoots in for a double leg but Svenstroem sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mat Richards. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Richards is looking to clinch.
Mat Richards seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Richards looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Svenstroem is fending him off so far but Richards persists. Nope, Svenstroem circles away and we're back to standing.
Richards fails to land the takedown.
No luck for Richards with that takedown attempt.
Richards shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Svenstroem as he jumps to the side.
Richards shoots for a double leg takedown but Svenstroem sprawls well. He's pushed Richards's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Richards is breathing heavily.
Svenstroem closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Richards to the mat! Richards manages to get full guard.
Svenstroem wants to control from the top but Richards keeps moving.
Svenstroem is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Svenstroem's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Svenstroem tries to free his leg and advance position but Richards is retaining full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Despite being in the dominant position, Magnus Svenstroem just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Richards fails to land with a series of punches.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Svenstroem clinches up against the cage.
Svenstroem has picked Richards up - he's going for a ride! Svenstroem dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Svenstroem takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Svenstroem looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Svenstroem is taking a breather. Richards says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Svenstroem lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Svenstroem seems to be looking for submissions.
Richards moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Svenstroem stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Richards swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Richards is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Richards working for a triangle but Svenstroem defends it easily.

Svenstroem passes Richards's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Svenstroem has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Richards defend it? Svenstroem steps over the head and cranks it - Richards is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Svenstroem!
