The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ellis throws a nice looking combination but Ruga bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ellis fails to land with a series of punches.
Ellis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ruga slips a jab and a cross from Ellis.
Ruga shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Ellis counters with a nice uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruga throws out a loose jab but Ellis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Ellis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A punch combination from Ellis misses.

Ellis throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Yossy Ruga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ruga doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Ellis counters with a nice uppercut.
No joy there for Ellis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Ruga is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ellis's half guard.

Ruga wants to work for an arm triangle but Ellis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Ruga moves into full mount! Ellis won't be happy about that!

Ruga jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Ellis is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Ellis and Ruga has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Ellis is not content to let Ruga control the position.
Ruga works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Ruga has hold of Ellis's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Ellis tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Ruga cranks the arm and Ellis screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Ellis, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
