PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spar Rer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kari Karpaasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karpaasi has chosen Motley crue - kickstart my heart as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Spar Rer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kari Karpaasi!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rer tries to clinch but Karpaasi is having none of it.

Karpaasi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rer's guard.
Karpaasi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Karpaasi decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rer, up you get!

Karpaasi scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Karpaasi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Karpaasi lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are battling for position here. Rer manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Karpaasi advances position into side control!

Rer parries the strikes from Karpaasi easily there. Karpaasi is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rer to escape.
Karpaasi scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Rer to see if he's OK.

Rer tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Karpaasi decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rer to his feet.

Rer tries to clinch but Karpaasi is having none of it.

Karpaasi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Rer is breathing heavily.

Karpaasi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Rer.
Rer avoids the head kick by Karpaasi.

Karpaasi looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rer!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rer is trying to stand up.
Karpaasi looking to finish Rer with some ground and pound. This is bad for Rer!

Rer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karpaasi on the ground.
Karpaasi looking to control and managing it successfully.
Rer is looking to improve his position but Karpaasi isn't that keen on the idea.
Rer squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Rer wants to control but Karpaasi is having none of it.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Karpaasi cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Rer is looking to get to half guard.
Karpaasi is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rer can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rer avoids a series of strikes thrown by Karpaasi.
Rer is trying desperately to improve position.
Rer really wants to buck Karpaasi off and get back to his feet.
Karpaasi avoids the attempt from Rer to control.
Rer is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Rer is looking to get to half guard.
Rer is trying to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rer is trying to escape the mount.
Karpaasi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rer is trying to stand.
Karpaasi content just to control the position here.
Karpaasi is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rer can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rer is trying desperately to improve position.
Rer squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Rer tries to lock up and control but Karpaasi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kari Karpaasi dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rer fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Karpaasi paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kari Karpaasi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rer tries to close the distance and clinch but Karpaasi swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rer is looking to clinch.
Rer misses with a head kick.
Karpaasi avoids the head kick by Rer.
Rer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Karpaasi paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Karpaasi keeps the fight on the outside.

Karpaasi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Rer tries to bench press Karpaasi off him but Karpaasi keeps the position.
Rer is letting Karpaasi control him for a moment.

Karpaasi stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Rer tries to clinch up but Karpaasi circles away and keeps his distance.
Rer wants to clinch up but Karpaasi keeps it at a distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Karpaasi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rer pushes Karpaasi off looking to stand but Karpaasi dives back in and keeps control.

Karpaasi slips a nice elbow through Rer's hands, connecting with Rer's forehead.
Rer wants to control but Karpaasi is keeping busy.

Karpaasi is trying to work for a kimura but Rer is defending well.
Rer is trying to stand back up but Karpaasi is controlling him
Karpaasi slows the pace down in half guard.
Kari Karpaasi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Karpaasi is thwarting Rer's attempts to control the position.
Karpaasi works his way into full mount!

It looks like Spar Rer has been cut.

Oh Rer is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rer is looking to get to half guard.

A nice elbow there by Karpaasi.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Karpaasi has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rer's face.

Rer tries to lock up and control but Karpaasi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Spar Rer's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Spar Rer's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
