Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Louis Cane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Andre Mullard! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mullard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cane's guard. Mullard trying to move into half guard but instead Cane has managed to sweep! Mullard keeping moving, preventing Cane from controlling successfully. Cane stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mullard swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mullard has his foot on Cane's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cane works his way back into a safe position though. Cane passes Mullard's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Mullard is staying active underneath Cane, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Cane is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Mullard! Mullard has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Cane's lack of action.
Mullard looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mullard works his way to full guard. Good work. Mullard scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Mullard misses with a double jab
enabling Cane to counter with a crisp jab. Mullard tries to clinch up and Cane counters with a straight right hand. The fighters circling - Mullard throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Mullard falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cane counters with a stiff right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mullard throws a sloppy body shot
and Cane connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Mullard throws a hook to the side of Cane's head but Cane sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Mullard gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Cane counters with a straight right hand. Mullard shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Cane counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cane circles away from the clinch attempt and Cane counters with a stiff right hand. Mullard misses with a right hand and Cane counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mullard closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mullard lands in his opponent's guard. Cane is trying to control the position but Mullard postures up. Mullard being controlled here momentarily. Mullard tries to free his leg and advance position but Cane is retaining full guard. Mullard drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cane dives on top into guard. Cane slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cane looking to pass the guard. Mullard manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cane manages to get himself to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mullard wants to pass the guard but Cane is keeping the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Louis Cane dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Cane tries for a takedown but Mullard circles away easily so Mullard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Cane preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Mullard is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cane is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cane has escaped and now he's on top! Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cane's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Mullard escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cane gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Cane trying to control but Mullard is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mullard throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Cane wants to control from the top but Mullard keeps moving. Cane tries to free his leg and advance position but Mullard is retaining full guard. Cane is working hard here to advance position. Cane wants to control from the top but Mullard keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Cane stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mullard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We're going to have a standup here because Louis Cane wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Mullard throws a combination that misses and Cane counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Mullard keeping full guard, as Cane tries to pass. Mullard is looking to stand up but Cane isn't so interested in that idea. Cane loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Cane is pushing down on Mullard's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mullard is fighting to maintain full guard but Cane has managed to sneak the leg through. Cane perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cane is looking to stall here but Mullard recovers full guard. Mullard working for a triangle but Cane defends it easily.
Mullard is breathing heavily. Cane trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Cane wants to control from the top but Mullard keeps moving. Cane trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Andre Mullard has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Mullard wants to stand up but Cane is controlling him. Cane wants to pass the guard but Mullard is keeping the position. Cane drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mullard looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mullard looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mullard! Cane sneaks back into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Louis Cane will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Mullard throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cane tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mullard is in Cane's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mullard loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cane is on top in guard.
Cane is pushing down on Mullard's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mullard is fighting to maintain full guard but Cane has managed to sneak the leg through. Cane seems to be working for a kimura but Mullard defends the submission attempt. Mullard wants to improve his position but Cane is controlling well.
Cane is looking to take a break and control but Mullard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mullard trying to control but Cane postures up.
Cane trying to pass the guard but Mullard defending well. Cane looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mullard trying to get back to full guard but Cane takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Cane wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. Mullard wants to get back to his feet but in bucking up he's left an arm hanging out! Cane has locked onto it and has pulled off a slick armbar! Mullard taps furiously! This one is all over!
