PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Senseney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Long way 2 Go. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leo Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cody Senseney!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Bruno Lombardi and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Senseney looks to land a combination but Silva avoids it well.

Senseney gets caught flat footed, as Silva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Silva pushes down on Senseney's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Senseney is defending well.

Silva is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Senseney has managed to free his arm - good work.
Silva wants to take a breather but Senseney is having none of it.
Senseney is trying to stand up here but Silva is controlling him well.
Silva is looking to advance position but Senseney won't allow it.
Senseney tries to kick Silva off but Silva keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Silva is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Senseney!
Senseney's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva controlling the position easily from mount.
Silva looking to control but Senseney is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Silva goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Senseney is on top in guard.

Senseney is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Senseney trying to control but Silva is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Senseney turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Senseney is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Silva knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Senseney looks gassed!

Senseney is working for a submission of some sort.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Silva is refusing to be controlled, as Senseney sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva is staying active underneath Senseney, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cody Senseney will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Senseney paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Senseney sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Senseney counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Silva shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Senseney counters by moving into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leo Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Senseney lands a left hand that snaps the head of Silva backwards.

and Senseney moves into the clinch.

Silva tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Senseney just stands there and leans against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Senseney avoiding damage.

Senseney jumps guard and drags Silva to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Silva prevents Senseney from getting back to his feet.
Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Senseney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Senseney has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Silva off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Senseney fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Cody Senseney is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Senseney swivels and escapes.
Senseney wants to land a leg kick but Silva is out of range.
Senseney is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.

Silva throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Senseney throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Silva gets tackled into the cage by Senseney. Senseney maintains the clinch.
Senseney leaning his opponent against the cage.
Senseney tries to break free but Silva pushes him back against the cage.

Senseney has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Silva clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Silva trying to control the position but Senseney manages to sink in the hooks.

Senseney trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Silva trying to control but not successfully.
Silva is trying to break free.
Senseney trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Silva doesn't escape.
Will Senseney go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Senseney controlling the position well here. Silva rolled but Senseney kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Senseney is trying to stick to Silva's back but Silva is turning into Senseney. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Senseney's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Silva.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cody Senseney was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Senseney clinches.

Silva decides to pull guard.
Senseney sitting in guard here, content to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Senseney showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Senseney tries to sprawl but Silva drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Senseney pushes Silva off looking to stand but Silva dives back in and keeps control.

Silva looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Silva wants to take a breather but Senseney is having none of it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva is pressing down on Senseney's thigh, looking to free his foot. Senseney is holding on for now.

Silva is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Senseney doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Silva.
Silva wants to take a breather but Senseney is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Silva stops Senseney from getting back to his feet.
Silva throwing shots but Senseney is blocking nicely.
Silva prevents Senseney from standing back up.

Senseney kicks Silva off and gets back to his feet.
Senseney tries to clinch but Silva moves away

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Senseney won't be happy with that.

Silva is working to tighten is grip on Senseney's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Senseney has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Silva is really squeezing tight and eventually Senseney passes out! Silva breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Leo Silva!
