PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Baki Hanma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Silverback Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar has chosen go coors! as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Silverback Lesnar was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Baki Hanma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Silverback Lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lesnar misses with a jab, cross combination.

Hanma closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Lesnar did well to prevent Hanma getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hanma is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Lesnar has managed to free his arm - good work.
Lesnar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lesnar is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Lesnar is trying to stand.
Hanma throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Hanma prevents Lesnar from improving his position.
Lesnar manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hanma drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Lesnar dives on top into guard.
Lesnar is looking to work some ground and pound but Hanma has wrist control.

Hanma had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lesnar defends it easily.
Lesnar stopping the sweep attempt from Hanma.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lesnar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Hanma will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Lesnar stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Lesnar takes the fight into the clinch.
Lesnar lands a body punch in the clinch.
Lesnar lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Lesnar blocks a body shot from Hanma.

Lesnar prevents a takedown attempt there.
Hanma goes for a takedown attempt but Lesnar pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Hanma clinches with his opponent.
Lesnar with a knee to the head.


It looks like Baki Hanma has been cut.
Knees in the clinch landing for Lesnar.
Hanma is breathing heavily.
Hanma tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baki Hanma. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hanma takes a knee to the side of the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lesnar is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Lesnar throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Hanmas head.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Lesnar lands an elbow inside.
Hanma misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Lesnar.
Lesnar with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Lesnar lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Lesnar lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hanma backwards.
Lesnar content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Lesnar lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Hanma is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
A nice left hand lands by Lesnar.

Lesnar lands a good knee to the midsection. Hanma won't want to take too many of those.
Lesnar landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Lesnar comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Lesnar lands a nice uppercut.
Lesnar lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Lesnar lands a knee to the body.

Baki Hanma's cut is getting worse.
Lesnar throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Lesnar lands a shoulder strike.
Lesnar lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
A nice right hand lands inside from Lesnar.
Lesnar manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Lesnar putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Hanma in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Lesnar lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Hanma backwards.
Lesnar lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hanma tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lesnar just stands there and leans against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Lesnar.
Hanma jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lesnar walks away with a smile on his face. Hanma gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Lesnar fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Lesnar clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silverback Lesnar dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Baki Hanma's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Lesnar drives through and clinches with Hanma against the cage.

Silverback Lesnar seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Lesnar scores with a knee to the head.
Hanma goes for a takedown attempt but Lesnar pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hanma misses with a few strikes there.
Lesnar falls off balance throwing a combination

and Hanma counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Hanma is working for a submission of some sort.
Lesnar gets back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lesnar pulls Hanma in to control the position.
Let's hope that Lesnar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Hanma thows a big elbow that misses.
Hanma postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lesnar pulls Hanma in close to his closed guard and prevents Hanma from doing any damage or advancing position.
Hanma postures up in Lesnar's guard and throws a big left but Lesnar blocks it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Lesnar working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hanma.
Lesnar is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Hanma drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lesnar looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lesnar looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lesnar!

Hanma tries to buck Lesnar off but Lesnar is having none of it.
Lesnar throws an elbow but Hanma slips to the side and avoids it well.
Hanma is trying to get back to half guard.
Lesnar is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hanma will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Hanma is looking to regain half guard here but Lesnar keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lesnar working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
You can see the frustration on Hanma's face as Lesnar controls the position.
Lesnar trying to control the action but Hanma is working from the bottom.
Hanma tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lesnar wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silverback Lesnar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Lesnar misses with a hook.
Lesnar swings for the body but Hanma moves out of range.
Hanma uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lesnar.

and Hanma counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lesnar won't be happy with that.
Lesnar wants to control but Hanma postures up.

Hanma wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lesnar, who protects the arm well.

Hanma thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Lesnar is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Baki Hanma has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hanma throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Lesnar is pressing down on Hanma's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hanma in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Hanma drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lesnar manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hanma has Lesnar in his guard.

Hanma is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lesnar defends well.
Lesnar engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Lesnar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hanma working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lesnar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lesnar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hanma escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lesnar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Baki Hanma showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lesnar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
