PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Sherman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cristiano Ronaldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Frank Sherman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cristiano Ronaldo!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ronaldo doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Sherman counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ronaldo moves out of range of the body kick.
Ronaldo shoots and misses

and Sherman counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Sherman seems content to control.
Sherman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ronaldo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Ronaldo tries to roll over but Sherman keeps him under control.
Sherman slows the pace down in half guard.
Ronaldo is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Sherman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ronaldo sees it coming and defends easily.

Sherman is trying to work for a kimura but Ronaldo is defending well.
Sherman wants to free his trapped foot but Ronaldo is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Sherman works his foot free and advances to mount.
Ronaldo tries to lock up and control but Sherman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sherman jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ronaldo manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Ronaldo can't do much from the bottom here.
Sherman taking a breather here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ronaldo tries to bench press Sherman off him but Sherman keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ronaldo struggling a bit here.
Sherman is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Sherman tries for a kimura but Ronaldo is defending well.
Ronaldo throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Sherman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Sherman clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ronaldo prevents a takedown attempt there.

Sherman turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sherman manages to end up in side control.
Ronaldo gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Ronaldo gets back to full guard.
Sherman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Sherman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Sherman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ronaldo has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sherman is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ronaldo.

Sherman has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Ronaldo keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Sherman is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ronaldo is surviving well by controlling Sherman's body position as best he can.
Sherman is breathing heavily.
Sherman looking to control and managing it successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sherman shoots in and gets a takedown into Ronaldo's guard.

Ronaldo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sherman is aware though and is defending well.
Sherman is stalling in the full guard.

Sherman drops back looking for a leg! Ronaldo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ronaldo manages to kick Sherman off! Sherman jumps back into Ronaldo's guard.
Sherman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Sherman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ronaldo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sherman has managed to get both his arms back between Ronaldo's legs - danger averted.
Ronaldo throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Sherman has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Sherman's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Frank Sherman has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Sherman instigates a clinch.
Ronaldo wants to break free but Sherman has control.
Sherman gets underhooks to prevent Ronaldo's takedown attempt.
Sherman goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ronaldo prevents it.
Sherman tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Ronaldo is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sherman gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Sherman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ronaldo looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Sherman passes into half guard.
Ronaldo is breathing heavily.
Sherman works his way into full mount!

Ronaldo tries to improve his position but Sherman has taken his back! Sherman has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Ronaldo tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Sherman pushes Ronaldo away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
