PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lee Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Whitaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Whitaker has chosen "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragon Force as his entrance music. Shane Whitaker is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Lee Wood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Shane Whitaker!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Whitaker paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lee Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!

Whitaker scores with a takedown into Wood's guard.
Wood tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wood knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Whitaker on the ground.
Wood seems keen to control Whitaker's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Shane Whitaker was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Wood connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Whitaker's hands.
Whitaker throws a right and a left that Wood avoids nicely.

Whitaker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wood sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Whitaker somewhat.

and Whitaker makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Whitaker will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wood accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Whitaker throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Whitaker closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Whitaker lands in his opponent's guard.

Wood manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Wood lands a big shot there that rocks Whitaker but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Shane Whitaker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Whitaker lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Wood!

Let's hope that Whitaker has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well Whitaker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
