Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Lee Jons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Batungbakal!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jons feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jons stands and steps away. Batungbakal gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Jons works over Batungbakal's head and body with a nice combination.
Batungbakal avoids a punch combination nicely.
Batungbakal tries to clinch up
and Jons counters with a three punch combo that has Batungbakal backing up. Batungbakal nods at Jons to acknowledge the strikes.


It looks like Jake Batungbakal has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Batungbakal throws a head kick but Jons moves out of range.
Jons dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Batungbakal breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jons thuds a left hand into Batungbakal's body.

Jons shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jons connects with a nice short shot to Batungbakal's temple.
Jons has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jons postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Batungbakal to stand up.

and Jons counters with a takedown into side control.

Jons decides to stand up, so the ref orders Batungbakal to his feet.

Batungbakal dodges the punch combination from Jons.
Jons lands a jab-cross combination.

Jons connects with a body shot that sends Batungbakal's belly button to the back.
Jons scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Batungbakal doesn't seem bothered though.

Jons shoots in and bounces Batungbakal off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

and Jons counters with a left and a right that stings Batungbakal.
Jons pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Batungbakal back to the cage. Jons follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Jons lands with a nice combination. Batungbakal backs away looking to recover.

Jons lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Batungbakal sprawling to the canvas. Jons follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Batungbakal hang on?

Jons decides to stand and escape the position.

Jons shoots in and gets a takedown into Batungbakal's guard.
Batungbakal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jons. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jons stays in close to Batungbakal's body and controls the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Batungbakal trying to keep a closed guard but Jons is proving a slippery customer.

Jons gets to his feet. Batungbakal looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Jons seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Jons shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Jons takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Jons is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Batungbakal can do to turn this around?
Jons lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Batungbakal backs up against the cage.


That has opened up Jake Batungbakal's cut even more.

Jons throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Batungbakal gets caught flat footed, as Jons shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Jons seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Batungbakal for as long as he can get away with.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jons has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Batungbakal throws a front kick aimed at Jons's knee but Jons avoids it well.
Jons sizes up Batungbakal with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Batungbakal takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Batungbakal is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Jons looks to land a combination. Batungbakal sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Jons lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Jons closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Batungbakal tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Jons has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Jons has hold of Batungbakal's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Batungbakal manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Batungbakal takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Jons throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Batungbakal has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Jons finds it's way round the side to connect with Batungbakal's head.
Jons throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Batungbakal stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Jons connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Batungbakal's hands.
Jons lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Jons lands with a shot to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jons throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Batungbakal was covering up waiting for the punch and Jons finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Batungbakal can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jons controls the pace.

Jons stands and steps away. Batungbakal gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

so Jons counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jons lands a couple of digs.
Jons is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Jons drops back looking for a leg! Batungbakal is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Batungbakal manages to kick Jons off! Jons jumps back into Batungbakal's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jons is pushing down on Batungbakal's leg trying to pass to half guard. Batungbakal is fighting to maintain full guard but Jons has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jons is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Batungbakal!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jons cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

BOOM! Jons connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Jons has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Batungbakal's face.

Jons takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jons, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
