PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karamba Labrador (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Make Perkele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karamba Labrador!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Make Perkele!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Labrador has managed to clinch.

Perkele is fighting off a takedown attempt but Labrador is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Perkele to the mat. Perkele regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Labrador tries to free his leg and advance position but Perkele is retaining full guard.
Labrador showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Perkele wants to stand up but Labrador is controlling him.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Labrador pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Perkele is keeping the position for now.
Labrador controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

We're going to have a standup here because Karamba Labrador wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and Labrador counters with a nice double leg into side control. Perkele won't be happy with that.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Perkele is trying to stand back up but Labrador is controlling him

Labrador throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Labrador is trying to work for a kimura but Perkele is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Labrador thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Perkele to regain full guard.
Perkele wants to stand up but Labrador is controlling him.
Labrador slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Perkele avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Perkele wants to stand but Labrador is controlling the position.
Labrador is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Labrador pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Perkele is keeping the position for now.
Labrador has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Karamba Labrador has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Perkele just misses with a punch to the body.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Labrador slips under a jab.

Labrador closes the distance and clinches.

Labrador breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Perkele connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Labrador's hands.

Labrador goes for a takedown in the clinch but Perkele prevents it.

Perkele misses with an uppercut. Labrador saw that one coming.
The fighters circling - Perkele throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Perkele misses with a series of wild punches.
Perkele rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Labrador counters with a takedown into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karamba Labrador dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Make Perkele's cut.

Perkele misses with an uppercut

and Labrador counters by moving into the clinch.
Labrador manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Labrador jumps into guard, dragging Perkele to the mat.
Labrador is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Perkele won't allow Labrador to get back to his feet.
Labrador looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Labrador wants to improve his position but instead Perkele has moved into half guard.
Perkele is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Labrador manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Make Perkele is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Labrador pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Labrador slips under a jab.
Perkele looks to land a right hand but Labrador moved out of range.
Perkele scores with a one two! Labrador had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Karamba Labrador has been cut.
Perkele misses with a right hand

and Labrador counters with a shoot takedown. Perkele fights it but they end up in guard.
Perkele is breathing heavily.
Labrador postures up in Perkele's guard and throws a big left but Perkele blocks it.
Labrador stays in close to Perkele's body and controls the position.
Labrador wants to get up but he can't break Perkele's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Labrador seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Karamba Labrador wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Perkele pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Perkele throws an overhand right that lands on Labrador's shoulder, as Labrador tries to avoid the shot.
Make Perkele seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perkele misses the jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Perkele. Labrador does a little dance to reset his feet.

Labrador shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Labrador seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Perkele for as long as he can get away with.

No joy there for Labrador, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Labrador decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Perkele is looking to escape.
Labrador wants to advance to full mount but Perkele doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Labrador is pushing down on Perkele's leg trying to pass to half guard. Perkele is fighting to maintain full guard but Labrador has managed to sneak the leg through.

Labrador is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Perkele defends it well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karamba Labrador dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Perkele falls off balance throwing a combination

and Labrador counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Labrador.
Labrador is stalling in the full guard.
Labrador looking to pass the guard.
Perkele is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Labrador throws and elbow that misses. Perkele uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Labrador's guard. Nice move by Perkele!
Perkele wanted to stand there but Labrador had control of the position.

Labrador pulls Perkele in close to prevent any damage.
Perkele won't allow Labrador to sweep him here.
Labrador has Perkele pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Karamba Labrador just wasn't active enough.

Labrador bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Karamba Labrador overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Perkele wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Perkele takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Perkele avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Labrador.
Make Perkele has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Labrador decides to stand back up.

Labrador closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Labrador perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Perkele is trying to stand up here but Labrador is controlling him well.

Labrador is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Perkele pushes Labrador off looking to stand but Labrador dives back in and keeps control.
Labrador content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Perkele tries to kick Labrador off but Labrador keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Labrador content to control rather than advance.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Labrador's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Karamba Labrador wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Labrador closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Perkele quickly recovers to half guard.
Labrador is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Perkele can do to turn this around?

Perkele wants to get back to his feet.
Labrador looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Labrador looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Labrador controlling the action here.

Karamba Labrador is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Labrador, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
