Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Nick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pat Barry! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A right-left combo lands from Barry.
It looks like Mike Nick has been cut. Barry should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Nick looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Nick throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. A head kick by Barry misses and Nick counters with a flying knee. Nice. Barry throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Barry lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Nick really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Barry throws a leg kick and Nick counters with a body kick that stops Barry in his tracks momentarily. Nick tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barry swivels and escapes. Barry throws a right and a left that both miss. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Barry!
Nick is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Barry. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Barry connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Nick checks a leg kick. Barry pivots, looking for a leg kick but Nick is out of range and Barry settles back down. Barry lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Barry scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Barry is looking to land body kicks. Barry shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Barry swings away with a leg kick that misses. Nick tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Barry is able to avoid easily. Nice straight punches there by Barry. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Barry.
That's one minute gone in the round. A left and a right from Barry both land. Nice combination. Nick showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Barry.
Left hook, right uppercut from Barry. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Barry has eaten all the pies! Nick blocks a head kick by Barry.
Jab by Barry. Nick checks a low kick from Barry. Pat Barry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nick on the wrong end of a nice jab. Barry throws a head kick that misses so Nick counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Nick thows a big elbow that misses. Nick would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Nick stopping the sweep attempt from Barry. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nick postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barry looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nick is one step ahead there. Barry trying to control the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Nick is looking to stand up but Barry won't let him. Barry trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barry working a defensive guard here.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Pat Barry wasn't active enough on the ground. Barry throws a leg kick and Nick moves into the clinch. Barry tries to stall but Nick uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Barry is trying to slow the pace down but that's a couple of times in a row that he's tried to get underhooks and Nick has denied him. Barry tries to break free but Nick pushes him back against the cage. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Barry is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Barry wants to break free but Nick has control.
Barry has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Nick is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Barry tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Nick smiles and moves away.
Nick takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Nice body punch from Barry. Nick on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Barry throws a body kick the misses and Nick counters with a head kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Nick shoots in for a double leg but Barry sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Barry throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Nick counters with a big head kick but Barry shrugs it off. Nick misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Nick. That's going to take a lot out of him. Barry jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Barry throws a leg kick but Nick sees it coming and moves out of range. Barry misses with a low kick. Barry throws a head kick but Nick moves out of range.
Barry throws a sloppy head kick and Nick counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Barry scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Barry throws a leg kick and Nick counters with a good low kick that Barry was not able to check. Barry throws a leg kick and Nick counters by moving into the clinch. Barry jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Nick walks away with a smile on his face. Barry gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Nick is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Barry's half guard. Nick is taking a breather. Barry says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Nick dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mike Nick's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Barry throws a leg kick that is checked and Nick counters with a three punch combo that has Barry backing up. Barry nods at Nick to acknowledge the strikes. Barry throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Barry scores with a kick to the midsection. Barry lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Barry misses with a combination
and Nick counters by clinching up. Nick breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nick shoots in for a takedown but Barry shows good takedown defense. Nick doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. A jab from Barry finds it's way through Nick's defenses. Barry works over Nick's head and body with a nice combination. Barry throws a lazy body kick and Nick counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Nick breaks from the clinch.

Barry closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Nick rushes Barry and presses him up against the cage. Nick will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Barry up against the cage. Barry tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Barry tries to pull guard but Nick holds him up against the cage and eventually Barry drops back down to his feet.
Nick keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Barry's efforts to push away. Nick prevents a takedown attempt there.
Mike Nick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pat Barry. Nick taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Nick tries to score a body lock takedown but Barry shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Barry trying to control the position but instead, Nick has worked for underhooks and has pushed Barry into the cage. Nick breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nick tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Nick fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Barry jabs at Nick's body. Barry misses with an attempted mid kick.

Barry is trying to keep an underhook but Nick manages to get the takedown into half guard. Barry wants to control but Nick is keeping busy and won't allow it. Nick wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barry keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barry regains full guard. Nicely done. Nick wants to pass the guard but Barry is keeping the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nick looking to sit in guard and control but Barry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Barry wants to stand but Nick is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Barry pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nick is keeping the position for now. Barry passes Nick's left leg - he's now in half guard. Nick trying to control from the bottom.
Barry is looking to take a break and control but Nick is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Mike Nick will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Mike Nick's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Nick tries to get to full guard but Barry has control of the leg. Nick is not content to let Barry control the position. Barry prevents Nick from improving his position. Nick wants to control but Barry passes into side.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Nick is working to avoid the ground and pound but Barry connects with a decent elbow. Barry decides to stand back up. Barry closes the distance and lands a one-two. Nick walks into a jab. A nice combination there by Barry.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Nick breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Pat Barry seems to be getting the better of the standup. Barry misses with a leg kick and Nick counters with a nice low kick that buckles Barry's knee momentarily. A lazy body kick from Barry and Nick counters with an outside leg kick.
Danga de danga de dang - Barry scores with a four punch combination! Barry showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Nick.
Barry throws a sloppy head kick and Nick counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Nick. Nick turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Barry is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Nick has just dragged him back down to the mat. Barry tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Nick easily slips into full mount! Barry tries to hold on but Nick pushes him away. Barry can't escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barry tries to lock up and control but Nick gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Nick misses with a head shot. Nick working for a submission but Barry is keeping him at bay. Mike Nick is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Barry is squirming around, avoiding Nick's attempts to control the action. Nick avoids the attempt from Barry to control. Pat Barry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Barry is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! Mike Nick showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nick, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
