Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Eccleston tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Penn is in Eccleston's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Penn working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Penn is working Eccleston over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Eccleston is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Penn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Eccleston keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully.
Penn is really struggling to control Eccleston but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Eccleston has momentary wrist control but Penn slips an elbow through the middle.

Penn tries to free his leg and advance position but Eccleston is retaining full guard.

Penn throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Eccleston works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Eccleston is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Penn is aware though and is defending well.

Eccleston has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Penn is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Eccleston.
Penn cracks Eccleston with a big right hand but Eccleston just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Check out the look on Penn's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Eccleston is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Penn looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Eccleston with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Eccleston has hold of Penn's hands but Penn slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Eccleston moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Penn wants to control from the top but Eccleston keeps moving.

Eccleston controls Penn momentarily but Penn frees himself.

Eccleston is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Penn is aware though and is defending well.

Penn wants to control from the top but Eccleston keeps moving.
Eccleston working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Penn.
Penn is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Penn postures up in Eccleston's guard and throws a big left but Eccleston blocks it.
Penn won't allow Eccleston to sweep him here.
Penn sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Eccleston's guard.
Eccleston has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Penn is working away from the top position though.
Penn is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

CJ Penn dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Eccleston tries to roll over but Penn keeps him under control.
Penn perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Penn throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Eccleston makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

and Penn counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Eccleston!
Penn has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Eccleston's face.

Eccleston is rocked!
CJ Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Penn scoring with strikes but Eccleston is staying in there.
Eccleston is still in real trouble! Can Penn finish him?
Penn unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Eccleston wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Penn celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
