Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sampson Kesler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Groyce Racie! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Racie swats away the attempt to clinch by Kesler. Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign! Kesler closes the distance and clinches up with Racie, looking for a takedown. Kesler pushes Racie against the cage but Racie circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Racie slips a jab and a cross from Kesler.
Kesler throws a series of punches but Racie avoids them all with ease. The fight stays on the outside here - Racie looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kesler tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Racie paws at him with a jab and circles away. Racie misses with the combination.
Kesler gets a clinch. Racie manages to break the clinch.
Kesler misses with a two punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kesler misses with a two punch combination.
Racie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Kesler! Racie with shots to the head and body - Kesler looks very uncomfortable down there. Racie sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Racie with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's one minute gone in the round. Racie tries to control but Kesler wriggling away. Kesler is trying to escape the mount.
Racie scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Kesler?
Kesler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Racie on the ground. Racie looking for a guillotine from mount but Kesler is having none of it. Kesler blocking the ground and pound. Kesler tries to hold on but Racie pushes him away. Racie throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Kesler keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Racie thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Racie throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Racie postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kesler looks a forlorn figure.
Racie working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Kesler turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Racie off and cradles Kesler's limp body as Racie celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Groyce Racie!
