Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cain Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mir comes to the cage accompanied by Sub-Mission. The crowd seem to be enjoying Rua's choice of entrance music: Metallica- Loverman. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, Cain Mir! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mario Rua! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mir shoots in but doesn't get the takedown enabling Rua to counter with a crisp jab. Rua displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mir. Mir misses with a body punch
and Rua counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Mir throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Rua connects with a solid leg kick. Rua checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Mir misses with a kick to the body and Rua counters with an outside leg kick.
Rua doesn't manage to clinch there - Mir circles away.
Mir with a poor takedown and Rua holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cain Mir. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mir working aggressively here.

Rua throws an elbow but it's blocked.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rua lands an uppercut. Rua tries to stall but Mir uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Mir escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rua fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mir has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Rua getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Mir connects with a body shot. Rua tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Rua looks to score with a jab to the body but Mir is just out of range. A low kick from Mir is predictable there and Rua counters with a body kick. Mir falls off balance throwing a combination
and Rua counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Mir connects with a crisp jab. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Mir, right into the meat.
Mir throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Mir drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mir is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Mir tries for a kimura but Rua is defending well. Rua pushes Mir away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mir gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Mir in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua stops Mir from passing to mount. Rua tries to get back to half guard but can't. Mir trying to control the action but Rua is working from the bottom. Rua is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Mir tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Rua is not content to let Mir control the position. Mir misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Mir is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Rua's shoulder. That is not cool. Mir in side control, throwing shots but Rua defends. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mario Rua dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Rua rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Mir to counter with a crisp jab. Mir shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Rua counters with a head kick. Rua tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mir paws at him with a jab and circles away. Rua throws a lazy head kick letting Mir counter with a right hand. Rua checks the leg kick. Mir throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rua was covering up waiting for the punch and Mir finishes the takedown easily into guard. Mir trying to control but Rua is working from the bottom. Mir is pushing down on Rua's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rua is fighting to maintain full guard but Mir has managed to sneak the leg through. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rua looking for subs from the bottom but Mir mounts him! Mir throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Rua because Mir loaded up on that one. Rua is squirming around, avoiding Mir's attempts to control the action. Mir is really struggling to control Rua but he's trying to hold on to the position. Mir controlling from mount. Mir thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Mir controlling from the full mount. Mir wants to control the pace but Rua is squirming around nicely. Rua can't escape the position.
Rua wants to hold on but Mir pushes him away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
BOOM! Mir connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Rua taking shots to the head. Mir lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mir unloading with bombs! Mir looking to finish Rua with some ground and pound. This is bad for Rua! Mir fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The referee warns Rua that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Mir wants to control the action but instead Rua gets a body lock and reverses into Mir's guard! Nice work! Mir controls Rua momentarily but Rua frees himself. Mir is pulling down on Rua's head to control his posture. Mir looking for a sweep. Not yet Mir, not yet. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mir controlling the position. Rua trying to control but Mir is working from the bottom. Mir has his foot on Rua's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rua works his way back into a safe position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Cain Mir dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Mir is looking to land body kicks. Mir throws an off balance right hand
and Rua counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Mir lands with a kick to the temple. Rua shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Mir shoots in looking for a takedown. Rua tries to sprawl out of it but Mir keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rua manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Jab by Rua. Rua has Mir up against the cage in a clinch.
Mir goes for a takedown attempt but Rua pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Cain Mir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rua tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mir manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mir shoots in but Rua avoids the takedown attempt easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cain Mir. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mir throws out a leg kick but Rua moves out of range and Mir only half commits. Rua closes the distance looking to clinch and Mir counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. A looping hook to the body misses from Mir. Rua does a little dance to reset his feet. Rua pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Rua walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Rua stuffs the takedown attempt from Mir. Mir gets slowly back to his feet. Mir throws a body kick the misses and Rua makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mir misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rua.
A low kick from Mir misses and Rua counters into the clinch. Nicely done. A nice left hand lands by Rua.
Rua fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Rua just misses with a elbow thrown towards Mir's brow. Mir is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Rua is keeping busy. Rua slows down the pace here.
Mir has Rua pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rua manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Rua blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Rua tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Mir avoids it. Mir tries to score a body lock takedown but Rua shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Mir has Rua pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mir pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rua tumbling to the mat - Mir dives into Rua's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mir trying to control but Rua is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua controlling Mir's posture. Mir trying to control but Rua is working from the bottom. Mir lands a couple of elbows. Rua has Mir pulled in close to control his posture. Rua looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Rua keeping moving, preventing Mir from controlling successfully. Mir stopping the sweep attempt from Rua. Cain Mir overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Nice takedown defense from Rua. No joy for Mir on that attempt. Rua throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mir on the side of the head. Rua swings for the body but Mir moves out of range.
Mir sizes up Rua with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Rua staying out of range there.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cain Mir. I think Mir has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
