PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Masters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hitty McPunch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McPunch has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Masters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hitty McPunch!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McPunch misses with a right hand
and Masters counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Masters fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Masters counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
McPunch wants to get back to his feet.

Masters looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
McPunch on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
McPunch keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
McPunch really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Masters. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Masters wants to control but McPunch is keeping him busy.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Masters darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
McPunch is controlling Masters's trapped leg to prevent Masters from advancing to side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McPunch can do anything to dispel that myth.
Masters works his foot free and advances to mount.
Masters controlling the pace for now.

McPunch just holding on.
McPunch is working to get back to half guard.
McPunch holds on for dear life.
McPunch is squirming around, avoiding Masters's attempts to control the action.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Masters manages to capitalize on a mistake by McPunch to take his back!

McPunch looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Can McPunch hold on?! Masters is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Masters trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
You can see the frustration on McPunch's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
McPunch is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Masters keeps control of the position easily here as McPunch tries to buck him off.
Masters gets his hands free as McPunch looks to control.
McPunch tries to roll but Masters sticks to his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Masters scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. McPunch is looking for a way out.
McPunch covering up well under a series of strikes from Masters.
Masters trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure McPunch doesn't escape.
McPunch tries to escape but Masters has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Masters is riding his opponent, not letting McPunch buck him off.
Masters lands with a hammerfist to the side of McPunch's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Masters counters with a shoot takedown. McPunch fights it but they end up in guard.
Masters wants to control from the top but McPunch keeps moving.
McPunch is adopting a defensive guard.
Masters wants to stand but McPunch has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
McPunch seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Masters tries to clinch but fails miserably
and McPunch connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McPunch looks to throw the jab but Masters is out of range.

McPunch moves into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A frustrated look appears on McPunch's face as he tries to break the clinch.
McPunch lands on the inside with an uppercut.
McPunch is breathing heavily.
Masters tries for a takedown. No joy.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
McPunch throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
McPunch is trying to break the clinch but Masters has him pressed against the cage.
Masters tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Masters tries to break free but McPunch pushes him back against the cage.
Masters takes a shot to the head.
Masters has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. McPunch is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Masters. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McPunch pushes Masters back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
McPunch lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
McPunch works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
McPunch throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Masterss head.
McPunch digs a right hand into Masters's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Masters's gas tank.

McPunch's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McPunch misses with a hook. Masters ducked under it nicely.

McPunch connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McPunch cracks Masters with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Masters tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but McPunch pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Masters is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hitty McPunch!
