Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenny Powers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jonathan Williams! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Anthony Taglia and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Powers looking for a sweep. Not yet Powers, not yet. Williams postures up.
Williams is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Williams drops back looking for a leg! Powers is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Powers manages to kick Williams off! Williams jumps back into Powers's guard. Williams trying to control the position from guard on top but Powers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Williams postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Williams wants to control from the top but Powers keeps moving. Powers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Williams on the ground. Williams stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Powers swivels though and keeps the full guard. Williams drops back looking for a leg! Powers is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Powers manages to kick Williams off! Williams jumps back into Powers's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Powers is retaining full guard. Williams preventing the sweep. Williams trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Williams pushes down on Powers's leg and manages to get into half guard. Powers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Williams tries to pass the half guard into mount. Powers knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Powers tries to get to full guard but Williams has control of the leg. Powers is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Williams's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Williams's back! Williams is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Powers misses with an elbow to the head. Powers controlling well, preventing Williams from escaping the position.
The referee is taking a good look at Williams as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Powers!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Powers scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Williams's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Williams trying to control the action but Powers just sinks the hooks in. Powers is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Williams. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped. Williams turns into Powers and is now in his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Williams postures up in Powers's guard and throws a big left but Powers blocks it. Powers is looking to stand up but Williams isn't so interested in that idea. Powers looking to control.
Williams is looking to advance position but Powers has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Powers scoring with strikes but Williams is staying in there. Powers raining down hammerfists from mount. This has been an exciting period of action! Williams bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kenny Powers dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Powers closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Powers lands in his opponent's guard. Williams had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Powers defends it easily. Powers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Williams has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Powers has managed to get both his arms back between Williams's legs - danger averted.
That's one minute gone in the round. Powers throwing strikes but missing. Powers throws a big right hand that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Powers is pushing down on Williams's leg trying to pass to half guard. Williams is fighting to maintain full guard but Powers has managed to sneak the leg through. Williams looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Powers thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Williams to regain full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Powers lands a couple of decent looking shots. Powers is posturing up here but Williams has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Powers tries to roll out but it's too tight and Powers has to tap! Slick submission there by Williams!
