Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Thomas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Taylor Tibbs! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tibbs misses with a takedown and Thomas counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Tibbs tries for a takedown but Thomas circles away easily and Thomas counters with a lovely straight right hand! Thomas lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Tibbs backs up against the cage.
Tibbs with a poor takedown so Thomas counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Mark Thomas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Taylor Tibbs. Thomas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Tibbs working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Thomas. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Thomas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Thomas throws and elbow that misses. Tibbs uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Thomas's guard. Nice move by Tibbs! Tibbs thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Thomas can't keep his opponent in guard - Tibbs advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Thomas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tibbs on the ground. Tibbs stops Thomas from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tibbs is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Thomas sees it coming and defends easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas is trying to stand.
Tibbs is working for a submission of some sort.
Thomas pushes Tibbs off and gets back to his feet. Tibbs gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Thomas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tibbs's guard. Tibbs is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Thomas defends well. Tibbs preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Thomas is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tibbs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Thomas is aware though and is defending well. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Thomas throwing strikes but missing. Thomas has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Tibbs is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Thomas has his hands clasped together but Tibbs extends an breaks Thomas's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Tibbs.
