PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jay Cometa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rumple Chopkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumple Chopkins will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Cometa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rumple Chopkins!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cometa shoots in and bounces Chopkins off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Cometa gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Chopkins looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Cometa regains full guard. Nicely done.
Cometa controls Chopkins momentarily but Chopkins frees himself.
Cometa wants to sweep but no luck.

Cometa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chopkins defends well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Cometa has his foot on Chopkins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chopkins works his way back into a safe position though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chopkins looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Cometa wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chopkins trying to control the position from guard on top but Cometa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cometa holds on and takes a little breather.
Chopkins is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rumple Chopkins hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Chopkins bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Cometa can't do much from the bottom here.
Chopkins wants to stand but Cometa has his arm trapped.

Cometa throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cometa enables Chopkins to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cometa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cometa keeping moving, preventing Chopkins from controlling successfully.
Cometa is trying to control the position but Chopkins postures up.
Chopkins has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cometa is proving hard to escape from.
Chopkins looks gassed!

Chopkins is posturing up here but Cometa has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Chopkins tries to roll out but it's too tight and Chopkins has to tap! Slick submission there by Cometa!
