The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gabriel takes one to the side of the head.

Esperanza shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Gabriel eats them both and turns towards Esperanza to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Gabriel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Esperanza walks away with a smile on his face. Gabriel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Esperanza moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Gabriel shoots in but Esperanza avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Esperanza closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gabriel did well to prevent Esperanza getting side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gabriel can do anything to dispel that myth.

Esperanza is looking for a kimura but Gabriel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Esperanza to get the leverage.
