PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Wintzloff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Sierra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wintzloff comes into the arena with Eminem Ft Kuniva, Swifty Mcvay - Going Crazy blaring out of the sound system. Jack Wintzloff could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Frank Sierra's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Wintzloff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Sierra!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wintzloff digs a good body shot into Sierra's ribs.
Sierra shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Wintzloff counters with a good low kick that Sierra was not able to check.
Sierra misses with a takedown
and Wintzloff counters with a head kick.
Sierra looks to land a body kick but Wintzloff moved away.
Wintzloff lands with a shot to the body.
Sierra tries to clinch
and Wintzloff counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Sierra throws a combination that misses
and Wintzloff connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sierra doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Wintzloff counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Jack Wintzloff has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Sierra.

Wintzloff drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sierra pulls his leg out and moves away.

Sierra looks to score with a jab to the body but Wintzloff is just out of range.

and Wintzloff counters with a single leg into guard. Sierra didn't expect that.
Wintzloff throws and elbow that misses. Sierra uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Wintzloff's guard. Nice move by Sierra!
Sierra seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Sierra wants to pass the guard but Wintzloff is keeping the position.
Wintzloff can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sierra controls the pace.
Sierra is looking to work some ground and pound but Wintzloff has wrist control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Frank Sierra wasn't active enough on the ground.
Wintzloff moves out of range as Sierra throws a body kick.
Sierra gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Wintzloff counters with a straight right hand.
Wintzloff will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sierra tries for a takedown but Wintzloff circles away easily
and Wintzloff counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Sierra thinking.

and Sierra counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Sierra thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wintzloff's head.
Wintzloff is pressing down on Sierra's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Sierra throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sierra doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Wintzloff counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Wintzloff fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sierra manages to avoid it.

Sierra gets tackled into the cage by Wintzloff. Wintzloff maintains the clinch.
Wintzloff is pressed up against the cage. Sierra has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Wintzloff down to the mat. Wintzloff avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Sierra closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sierra lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Frank Sierra has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

and Wintzloff makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wintzloff throws and elbow that misses. Sierra uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Wintzloff's guard. Nice move by Sierra!
Wintzloff seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sierra throws a sloppy head kick
enabling Wintzloff to counter with a crisp jab.
Wintzloff feints and then cracks Sierra's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sierra down.
Sierra uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wintzloff.

Sierra drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sierra tries to score with some ground and pound. Wintzloff controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Sierra wants to control but Wintzloff is keeping him busy.

Wintzloff tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Frank Sierra has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Sierra taking a break here but Wintzloff is having none of it and regains half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Frank Sierra hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wintzloff, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
