Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brett Davids (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raul Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davids comes to the cage accompanied by "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brett Davids! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Raul Castro! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Castro lands with a nice combination. Davids backs away looking to recover. Davids waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Castro. Davids throws a body punch but Castro moves out of range. Davids avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Raul Castro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Davids with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Castro to score with a decent uppercut. A slow jab from Davids misses its intended target. Davids scores with a jab. Castro acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Davids keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Davids swings for the body but Castro moves out of range.
Castro will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Davids counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Davids bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Castro's head backwards. Davids swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Castro tries to clinch but fails miserably and Davids counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Castro is rocked! Castro moves away from the strike by Davids. Castro is still on wobbly legs! Can Davids finish him? Davids ducks under a wild hook from Castro. Castro seems to have recovered his senses. Davids buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Davids connects with a good right hand that stumbles Castro. Castro circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Castro wants to clinch but Davids slips to the side and Castro takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Castro swinging wildly here.

and Davids counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Davids misses with a looping left. Castro moves away from the strike by Davids. Castro avoids a punch combination nicely.
Davids lands with an uppercut that bounces Castro off the cage and back into rage. Castro throws a combination that misses and Davids counters with a stiff right hand. Davids lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Davids lands a nice shot to the body.
Davids ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Castro looks to clinch and Davids counters with a left to the body. That kick from Davids tenderised Castro's leg. Castro is trying to keep his angry face on. Davids lands with an overhand left.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A nice inside leg kick there by Davids. That's going to slow Castro down. Castro gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Davids throws a left that rocks Castro and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Davids dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Castro regain composure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Davids sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Castro is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Davids throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Castro doesn't manage to clinch there - Davids circles away.
Davids throws a right hand that Castro ducks under and follows up with a left that Castro also avoids with ease. Castro throws a combination that misses and Davids counters with a leg kick. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davids has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Castro lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Davids circles away quickly and effectively. Castro swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Castro wants to control but Davids postures up. Davids postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
