Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spike Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luca Brasi! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Anthony Taglia and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brasi swings widly with a right hand
and Smith counters with a straight right hand. Brasi throws a lazy uppercut
and Smith connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Brasi throws a lazy uppercut
letting Smith counter with a right hand. Brasi rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Smith to counter with a crisp jab. Brasi throws an off balance right hand
and Smith cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Brasi throws a right hand that misses
and Smith counters with a straight right hand. Brasi misses with a lunging right hand
and Smith counters with a straight right hand. Oh, that's a big right hand from Brasi and Smith goes tumbling to the canvas! Brasi follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
Smith is rocked!
It looks like Spike Smith has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Smith wants to improve his position but Brasi is controlling well.
Brasi blocks the strikes from Smith.
Brasi tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Smith. Smith trying to control but Brasi postures up.
Brasi is keen to just control but Smith is a slippery customer.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ground and pound from Brasi. Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Smith is looking to improve his position.
Brasi lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Brasi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Smith has managed to free his arm - good work. Brasi stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Smith to get to his feet. Brasi gets off balance looking for a body kick enabling Smith to counter with a crisp jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is holding his hands too far apart here. Brasi throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Smith is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Luca Brasi!
