Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Louis Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doctor Ball (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez's entrance music is Brother Louie. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Louis Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Doctor Ball!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Luis Engracia and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ball throws a head kick that misses.
Ball swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Velasquez lands a slapping body shot.
Ball throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Velasquez counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
A looping hook to the body misses from Velasquez. Ball does a little dance to reset his feet.
Velasquez lands a glancing blow to the side of Ball's head.
Velasquez ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Velasquez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Ball connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Velasquez scrambles back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ball.
Velasquez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Velasquez misses with a looping left.
Ball throws a right hand that Velasquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Velasquez also avoids with ease.
Ball takes one to the chin there.
Velasquez misses with a series of wild punches.
Ball shoots for a takedown but Velasquez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ball throws a left and a right that both miss
and Velasquez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Velasquez connects with the punch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ball will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Louis Velasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doctor Ball.
Velasquez fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Ball looks gassed!

Ball drives through with a takedown into guard.

Ball stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Velasquez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Velasquez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Doctor Ball has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Ball shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ball showed some decent athleticism there.

Ball is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Velasquez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ball.

Velasquez is holding on to half guard well.
Ball is looking to advance position but Velasquez won't allow it.
It looks like Ball is going to stand back up.

Ball is trying to control the action in half guard but Velasquez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ball is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Velasquez sees it coming and defends easily.
Ball tries to pass to full mount but Velasquez defends it.
Velasquez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ball is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Velasquez has managed to free his arm - good work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Velasquez trying to control but Ball postures up.
Ball is keen to just control but Velasquez is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ball frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Velasquez stops Ball from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Ball looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Velasquez looks to score with a jab to the body but Ball is just out of range.
Ball fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Ball drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ball pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Velasquez is keeping the position for now.
Ball advances to half guard.

Ball is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Velasquez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ball on the ground.

Ball is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Velasquez is just riding it out for now. Ball eventually gives up the hold.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ball is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Doctor Ball showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Ball with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Velasquez to score with a decent uppercut.
Velasquez is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Velasquez has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Velasquez drops his hands momentarily and Ball takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Ball clobbers Velasquez with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Velasquez tries to move into range but Ball moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Ball just misses with a punch to the body.

and Velasquez counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A slow jab from Ball misses its intended target.
Velasquez walks into a stiff left hand from Ball.

and Velasquez makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Ball doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Ball wants to clinch but Velasquez slips to the side
and Velasquez counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Doctor Ball is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ball connects with a looping right hand.
Ball takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Ball slips under a jab.
Ball misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Velasquez.

Ball lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Ball throws an off balance right hand
and Velasquez counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Velasquez jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Ball takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ball closes this distance looking for a takedown but Velasquez circles away.

No joy there for Ball, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Ball moves to clinch but Velasquez breaks away
and Velasquez counters with a nice body shot.
A decent looking cross lands there for Velasquez.
Velasquez missing with a left hand there. Ball was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Velasquez feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Balls jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Velasquez looks to score with a jab to the body but Ball is just out of range.
Ball shoots for a double leg takedown but Velasquez sprawls well. He's pushed Ball's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Velasquez changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Velasquez missing with a left hand there. Ball was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Velasquez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ball walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Velasquez lands a nice looking body shot.
Velasquez tries to bum rush Ball with a series of wild strikes but Ball uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Velasquez is looking to wear down Ball with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Ball uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Velasquez.

Ball shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Velasquez defends it nicely.

and Ball takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Ball shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
A punch lands to the side of Ball 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Velasquez makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Velasquez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ball stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Louis Velasquez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Velasquez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
