Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Derek Scully (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Pederson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pederson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Avenged Sevenfold - Natural Born Killer. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Derek Scully!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Pederson!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scully tries for a takedown but Pederson circles away easily
and Pederson counters with a nice uppercut.
Scully gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Pederson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Scully misses with a takedown
and Pederson counters with a straight right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Derek Scully. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pederson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Scully decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pederson's guard.
Scully pushes down on Pederson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Scully not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pederson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Scully is trying to work for a kimura but Pederson is defending well.
Pederson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Scully. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Scully looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Scully is looking to advance position but Pederson won't allow it.
Scully is just content to waste time from the top position. Pederson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Pederson keeping moving, preventing Scully from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Scully is looking to work some ground and pound but Pederson has wrist control.
Scully tries to free his leg and advance position but Pederson is retaining full guard.
Pederson can't keep his opponent in guard - Scully advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Scully in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Pederson tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Scully!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Derek Scully!
