Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jon Mulroney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Liam Lam! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Eddie Farnsworth and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mulroney tries to clinch there but Lam circles away.
Mulroney is looking to clinch. The fight stays on the outside here - Mulroney looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Mulroney is looking to clinch. Mulroney looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Mulroney looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Lam fails with a takedown attempt. Lam moves into range and clinches up with Mulroney. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mulroney has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Lam is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Mulroney tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lam just stands there and leans against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Jon Mulroney. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mulroney with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mulroney misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Lam.
Mulroney jumps into guard, dragging Lam to the mat.
Mulroney not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lam is fighting to break Mulroney's control of his arms but Mulroney is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Mulroney is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mulroney is trying to keep Lam in close.
Mulroney wants to hit a switch here but Lam passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mulroney there! Lam lands a heavy elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mulroney is looking to get to half guard. Mulroney is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Mulroney is breathing heavily. Lam tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Mulroney regains half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mulroney is pressing down on Lam's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Lam is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Mulroney has his feet on Lam's thighs here. He's pushed Lam off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Lam screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
