PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lewis McLay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bo Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McLay's entrance music is "The Party Song" by Blink 182. A fine choice. Bo Banks has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Lewis McLay's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lewis McLay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bo Banks!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McLay throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Banks's waist but Banks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McLay off to one side.
McLay takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
McLay shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Banks defends it nicely.
Banks fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Banks throws a head kick that misses

and McLay counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Banks's guard now.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
McLay content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Banks keeping full guard, as McLay tries to pass.
McLay postures up in Banks's guard and throws a big left but Banks blocks it.
Banks wants to stand up but McLay is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McLay trying to control the position from guard on top but Banks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Banks preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Banks is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst McLay is controlling him.
McLay in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Banks is looking to stand up but McLay isn't so interested in that idea.
McLay thows a big elbow that misses.
McLay stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Banks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McLay missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McLay accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Banks wants to stand and escape but McLay is having none of it.
McLay is looking to work some ground and pound but Banks has wrist control.
McLay throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Banks works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
McLay postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
McLay advances position into side control!
McLay wants to lay and pray for a moment but Banks keeps working.

McLay tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McLay has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
McLay throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Banks managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by McLay.
McLay is looking to take a break and control but Banks is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

McLay wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Banks, who protects the arm well.
Banks wants to get back to his feet.
Banks wants to get back to his feet but McLay is dominant here and he's now got Banks's back!
Banks avoids the strikes from McLay.
McLay lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
McLay has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McLay missing with punches from the back.
McLay really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

McLay has managed to slip his arm under Banks's chin. This could be all over... yep, Banks is tapping out! Submission win for McLay.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Lewis McLay!
