PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Take Down (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Saliva - Ladies and Gentlemen. Max Steel has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Max Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Take Down!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel scores with a hook.
Steel misses with a lunging right hand
enabling Down to counter with a crisp jab.
Steel fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Down manages to avoid it.
Steel throws a right hand that misses
and Down counters with a nice uppercut.
Down steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Steel.
Steel misses with a low kick.
Steel misses with an uppercut.
Down keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Steel.
Steel throws a leg kick but Down sees it coming and moves out of range.
Steel waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Down.
Steel bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Steel just misses with a punch to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Down cracks Steel with a right hand to the side of the head.
Steel getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Down misses with a left hand
and Steel counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Down slips a jab from Steel.
Steel takes a swing at Down's ribcage but misses.
Steel scores with a punch to the head.
Steel fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Down checks it well.
Steel misses with a lunging right hand

and Down counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Down sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Steel defending well though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Down in particular looking to stall.
Down throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Steel wants to improve his position but Down is controlling well.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Down connects with a nice short shot to Steel's temple.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Down is thwarting Steel's attempts to control the position.
Down thows a huge punch but Steel dodges it nicely.
Steel has hold of Down's hands but Down slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Down not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Steel wants to improve his position but Down is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steel is staying active underneath Down, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Down missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Down has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Steel wants to control but Down is keeping busy.
Down is just content to waste time from the top position. Steel takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Down wants to control from the top but Steel keeps moving.
Steel has Down pulled in close to control his posture.
Steel looking for a sweep. Not yet Steel, not yet.
Down is looking to work some ground and pound but Steel has wrist control.
Steel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Down postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Down trying to control the position from guard on top but Steel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Down trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Steel manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Steel working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Steel trying to control but Down is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Steel pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Max Steel will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Down throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Steel throws a jab when Down was well out of range.
Down closes this distance looking for a takedown but Steel circles away.
Steel loads up on a big right hand but Down slips the punch.

Steel gets caught flat footed, as Down shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Down postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Steel is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Down, into his guard.
Steel chips away with some ground and pound.
Steel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Down works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steel missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Steel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Steel's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Steel advances position into side control!
Steel tries to score with some ground and pound. Down controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Steel trying to control the position but Down is working away.
Steel works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Steel lands a decent elbow from side control.
Down defending against the ground and pound.
Down is not content to let Steel control the position.
Steel content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

You can see the frustration on Down's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Down gets back to half guard.
Steel trying to mount his opponent but Down defends it.
Down has his hands clasped together around Steel's back. He's all about the action.
Down wants to control but Steel is keeping busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Good shot there by Steel.
Down steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Steel.
Steel is looking to land body kicks.
Down tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Down throws a sloppy body shot
and Steel counters with a straight right hand.
Steel throws a quick inside leg kick.
Steel motions for Down to come forward. Steel throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
The fighters circling - Steel throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Steel dominated that second round.
That's time! Steel's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Down steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Steel.
Steel feints a jab promting Down to slip. Steel then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Down slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Down throws a predictable looking body shot
letting Steel counter with a right hand.
Down misses with a takedown attempt - Steel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Steel keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Down ducks right into an uppercut from Steel.
Down throws a looping overhand right but Steel ducks down to avoid it.
Steel lands with a thumping leg kick.
Steel moves away from the strike by Down.
Good leg kick by Steel there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Down lands a body shot.
Steel dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Steel tried to score with a low kick but Down checks it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Steel looks to score with a jab to the body but Down is just out of range.

Down decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Steel tries to get to full guard but Down has control of the leg.
Down scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Steel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Down's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Down's back!

Take Down has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Down manages to reverse the position and now he's in Steel's guard. Nice work there by Down.

Down wants to control from the top but Steel keeps moving.
Down with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Steel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Down throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Steel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Steel utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Steel wants to sweep here but Down controlling him for the moment.
Down trying to control the position from guard on top but Steel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Down thows a big elbow that misses.
Down stopping the sweep attempt from Steel.
Down throws and elbow that misses. Steel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Down's guard. Nice move by Steel!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Steel is posturing up here but Down has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Steel tries to roll out but it's too tight and Steel has to tap! Slick submission there by Down!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Take Down!
