PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between He Me (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ac Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Me comes to the cage accompanied by Hate Me Now. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, He Me!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ac Slater!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slater throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Me takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Me throws a lazy body kick
and Slater counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Me takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Me tries a head kick but it misses.
Me tries to clinch up but Slater circles away and keeps his distance.
Me takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Me walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Me chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Slater can pounce on him.
Slater swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Slater clobbers Me with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Me lands a nice looking kick to the body. Slater takes a step back to recover.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Me is looking to clinch but Slater is avoiding it.
Slater throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Me ducks right into an uppercut from Slater.
Me turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slater throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Me sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Slater misses with a double jab.
Slater cracks Me with a good jab.
Slater misses with a body shot.
Slater avoids the head kick by Me.
Me throws a leg kick

and Slater counters with a takedown into side control.
Me is looking to reverse the position.
Me knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Slater on the ground.
Me is not content to let Slater control the position.
Slater is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Me's shoulder. That is not cool.

Me takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Me tries to improve position but can't.
Me is not content to let Slater control the position.
Me can't do much from the bottom here.
Slater landing strikes.

Slater throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Slater is looking to take a break and control but Me is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Me avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Slater.
Slater wants to lay and pray for a moment but Me keeps working.
Me is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Slater is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Me will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Slater tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Slater counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Ac Slater has been cut.
Me avoids the head kick by Slater.
Slater jabs Me right on the nose. Me blinks but takes it well.
Slater checks a low kick from Me.

Me moves to clinch but Slater breaks away

and Slater counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Slater counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Me needs to keep his hands up - Slater had a free shot at his head there.
He Me seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Me tries to clinch but Slater moves away
and Me takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Slater counters with a shoot takedown. Me fights it but they end up in guard.
Slater missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Slater seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Slater trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Slater controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Me keeping moving, preventing Slater from controlling successfully.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ac Slater was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Me doesn't manage to clinch there - Slater circles away.
Slater might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

A jab-cross combination lands for Slater and sends Me crashing to the mat! Slater follows him down to the mat - Me regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Me is rocked!

Slater controlling the action here.
Oh Me is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Slater is pressing down on Me's thigh, looking to free his foot. Me is holding on for now.
Me seems to have got his legs back now.
Still in half guard, Slater seems content to control.
Slater wants to control but Me is keeping him busy.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ac Slater.

Slater decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Slater not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Slater missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ac Slater showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Ac Slater's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A head kick misses from Me.
Slater throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Me tries to close the distance and clinch but Slater swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Me ducks right into an uppercut from Slater.
Me fails with an attempt to clinch.
Me with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Slater looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Slater works over Me with some ground and pound from guard.
Slater has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Slater keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Me's head.

Slater is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Slater throws a big right hand that misses.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Slater prevents Me from getting back to his feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Slater misses with a series of wild punches.

Slater scores with a takedown into Me's guard.
Ac Slater has got the better of the ground game so far.
Slater working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Me's head.
Slater throwing strikes from guard but Me blocks nicely.
He Me has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Slater postures up in Me's guard and throws a big left but Me blocks it.
Slater missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Slater trying to control but Me is working from the bottom.
Ac Slater is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slater slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Slater has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ac Slater was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Me is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Slater's corner calls for a 1-2. Slater obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Me wants to clinch.
Slater shoots in for a takedown but Me shows good takedown defense.
Me tries to land a body kick
and Slater counters with an outside leg kick.
Slater scores with a nice strike.

Me gets caught flat footed, as Slater shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Slater's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Slater looking to pass the guard.
Slater engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ac Slater comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Slater has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
