PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rey Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffin's entrance music is Bad Meets Evil - Fast Lane. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rey Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scott Harrison!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harrison drives through with a takedown into guard.
Griffin wants to control the position but Harrison says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Harrison is taking a breather. Griffin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Griffin tries to kick Harrison off in order to stand up. Harrison Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Griffin tries to buck Harrison off but Harrison is having none of it.

Harrison has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Harrison misses with a leg kick
and Griffin counters with a head kick.
Harrison looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Harrison gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Harrison breaks the clinch.
Harrison throws a leg kick which misses Griffin's front leg but catches the back leg as Griffin tries to avoid it.
Griffin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Harrison but Harrison pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Griffin tries to clinch but Harrison is having none of it.

Griffin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Harrison sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Griffin somewhat.

and Griffin counters with an outside leg kick.

and Griffin counters with a series of strikes. Harrison will be more careful next time no doubt.
Harrison throws a low kick but Griffin avoids it.
Harrison tries to clinch up but Griffin circles away and keeps his distance.

Harrison pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and Griffin finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Harrison dives in and grabs Griffin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Griffin pushes down on Harrison's head and hops out.

Harrison shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Griffin's guard.
Griffin is looking to stand up but Harrison isn't so interested in that idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Harrison stands and steps away. Griffin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Griffin counters with a head kick. That will keep Harrison thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Scott Harrison seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Griffin is breathing heavily.
A solid leg kick lands there for Harrison.

Harrison closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Harrison lands in his opponent's guard.
Griffin wants to get back to his feet but Harrison is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Griffin is working an open guard so Harrison takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Griffin counters with a head kick. That will keep Harrison thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Griffin fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Harrison avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rey Griffin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Harrison fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Griffin sprawls well initially but Harrison persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Griffin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Harrison pulls his head out easily.

It looks like Harrison might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Harrison gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

and Griffin counters with a leg kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Harrison decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rey Griffin will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Griffin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Harrison.
Harrison tries to clinch there but Griffin circles away.
Harrison fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Harrison tries to clinch up but Griffin circles away and keeps his distance.
That kick from Harrison tenderised Griffin's leg. Griffin is trying to keep his angry face on.
Harrison falls off balance throwing a combination
and Griffin counters with a body kick that stops Harrison in his tracks momentarily.
Harrison misses with a leg kick
and Griffin counters with a nice body kick.
Griffin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Griffin misses with a double jab.
Harrison is breathing heavily.
Griffin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Harrison looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Griffin is fending him off so far but Harrison persists. Nope, Griffin circles away and we're back to standing.

Griffin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Griffin looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Griffin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Griffin counters with a three punch combo that has Harrison backing up. Harrison nods at Griffin to acknowledge the strikes.
Rey Griffin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Griffin dives in and grabs Harrison's left leg, looking for a takedown. Harrison pushes down on Griffin's head and hops out.
Griffin tries to close the distance and clinch but Harrison swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Griffin is looking to score with low kicks.
Griffin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Griffin takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Griffin tries to sprawl but Harrison drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Harrison works his way into side control.

Harrison decides to stand back up. Harrison steps back and let's Griffin get back to his feet.
Harrison throws a chopping leg kick but Griffin manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Harrison connects with a high kick.
Harrison shoots in but Griffin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Harrison moves in looking to clinch but Griffin pushes him off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harrison shoots in and drives through. Griffin sprawls well.
Rey Griffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Harrison.

Griffin clinches up against the cage.
Griffin wants to break free but Harrison has control.
A knee to the head by Griffin.

Griffin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Griffin tries for a takedown but Harrison sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Griffin counters with an inside leg kick.
Harrison keeps the fight on the outside.

and Griffin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Griffin throws the kick towards the body but Harrison avoids it.

Harrison misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Harrison throws a leg kick
and Griffin counters with a low kick, right behind Harrison 's knee.
Harrison throws a body punch but Griffin moves out of range.
Harrison bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

and Griffin counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Harrison is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Griffin shoots in for a double leg but Harrison sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Harrison lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Harrison throws a low kick but Griffin moves out of range easily.

and Griffin counters with a good low kick that Harrison was not able to check.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rey Griffin dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Harrison throws a front kick aimed at Griffin's knee but Griffin avoids it well.
Griffin pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Harrison gets a takedown into half guard.
Griffin wants to stand back up but Harrison manages to pass into side control.
Griffin bucks up and tries to throw Harrison off but instead Harrison has got his back!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Harrison slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harrison has the hooks in. Griffin is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Harrison biding his time, looking for the opening.
Griffin wants to get back to his feet.
Griffin tries to break free.
Griffin controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Harrison has his arm under Griffin's chin here. Game over son! Harrison squeezes tightly and Griffin is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Scott Harrison!
