Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Lauzon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Slider! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lauzon connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Lauzon slips a jab and a cross from Slider.
Slider tries to clinch there but Lauzon circles away.
Lauzon gets the takedown into side control. Lauzon staying calm. Lauzon working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. The strikes coming from Lauzon are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Slider is trying to get back to his feet. Lauzon is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Slider knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lauzon trying to control the position but Slider is working away. Slider wants to get back to his feet but Lauzon drags him back down. Lauzon tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lauzon has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Lauzon is looking to take a break and control but Slider is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Lauzon tries to advance to mount but can't. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Lauzon looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Lauzon goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Slider rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Lauzon's guard! Nice work there by Slider! Slider must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Lauzon looking for a sweep. Not yet Lauzon, not yet. Lauzon looking to control.
Lauzon looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Slider puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Lauzon works his way to full guard. Good work. Lauzon lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Slider!
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Lauzon trying to control but he's not successful this time. Lauzon is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Slider is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Slider flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Lauzon anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Slider and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Lauzon slips an arm under Slider chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Lauzon has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Lauzon is squeezing on Slider like an anaconda would it's prey. Slider fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
