PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Durandin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Medion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Durandin has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Alex Durandin has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Durandin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jimmy Medion!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Medion tries to clinch
and Durandin counters with a stiff right hand.
Medion scores with a head kick. Durandin tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Medion, right into the meat.

Durandin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Durandin is breathing heavily.
Medion wants to control but Durandin postures up.
Medion tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A control attempt from Medion but he's now mounted!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Medion is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Medion keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Medion wants to control but Durandin is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Medion really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Medion is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Medion is trying to stand.
Medion tries to lock up and control but Durandin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like Jimmy Medion has been cut.
Durandin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Medion is looking to improve his position but Durandin isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Jimmy Medion's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Durandin avoids the body shot from Medion.
A slapping body kick lands there for Medion.
Medion tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Durandin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Medion's guard now.
Medion looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Medion looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Medion wants to clinch

and Durandin counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Medion!
Medion tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Durandin cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Medion keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Durandin lands a big shot there that rocks Medion but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Durandin working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Durandin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Medion can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Medion is in a horrible position here. Durandin smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Durandin lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Durandin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Medion is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Durandin is controlling him.

Durandin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Durandin advances to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alex Durandin.

Durandin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Medion manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Medion controls Durandin momentarily but Durandin frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alex Durandin.
Durandin ducks under a wild hook from Medion.

Durandin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Medion is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Durandin is aware though and is defending well.
Durandin slips nicely into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Durandin showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Durandin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
