PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dick Ryda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacek Szpaczynski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dick Ryda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacek Szpaczynski!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Szpaczynski throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ryda was covering up waiting for the punch and Szpaczynski finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ryda keeping moving, preventing Szpaczynski from controlling successfully.
Ryda looking to hit a scissor sweep but Szpaczynski is one step ahead there.
Szpaczynski stops Ryda from standing up.
Szpaczynski not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Ryda keeping full guard, as Szpaczynski tries to pass.
Szpaczynski wants to control from the top but Ryda keeps moving.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jacek Szpaczynski wasn't active enough on the ground.

Szpaczynski bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ryda is being controlled here.

Ryda is looking to reverse the position.
A lull in the action here.
Ryda tries to bench press Szpaczynski off him but Szpaczynski keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryda seems a little lost for a moment, as Szpaczynski dominates the positioning.
Szpaczynski looks up at the clock and then as Ryda takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Szpaczynski smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Szpaczynski is staying tight to Ryda's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Szpaczynski advances to mount.
Ryda tries to reverse the position but Szpaczynski maintains control.
Szpaczynski landing strikes from the mount.
Szpaczynski fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Szpaczynski looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Ryda could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Szpaczynski avoids the attempt from Ryda to control.
Szpaczynski lands a big shot there that rocks Ryda but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Szpaczynski lands a big elbow.
Ryda might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ryda wants to control but Szpaczynski is having none of it.

Ryda defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Szpaczynski.

Szpaczynski looks gassed!
Szpaczynski breaks from Ryda's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Ryda's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Szpaczynski is trying to control here but Ryda has managed to regain half guard.
Szpaczynski uses his free foot to push down on Ryda's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ryda.

Ryda is in a horrible position here. Szpaczynski smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Ryda keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ryda is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Szpaczynski is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ryda has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ryda wants to control but Szpaczynski is having none of it.
Ryda really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Ryda slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Szpaczynski seems to be working for a kimura but Ryda defends the submission attempt.
Ryda has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Szpaczynski is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacek Szpaczynski dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Ryda shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ryda showed some decent athleticism there.
Szpaczynski wants to get back to full guard.
Ryda trying to control the action but Szpaczynski is working from the bottom.
Szpaczynski is breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ryda in particular looking to stall.
Szpaczynski is not content to let Ryda control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dick Ryda.
Szpaczynski shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Ryda counters with a nice body shot.
Ryda shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Szpaczynski as he avoids it easily.

Ryda closes the distance and clinches.

Ryda breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Szpaczynski displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ryda.

Ryda tries to score a body lock takedown but Szpaczynski shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dick Ryda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Szpaczynski drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ryda pulls his leg out and moves away.
Ryda tries to clinch but Szpaczynski moves out of range.

Ryda throws a sloppy head kick and Szpaczynski moves out of range easily.
Szpaczynski tries for a takedown but Ryda circles away easily

and Ryda counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Szpaczynski is looking for a sweep. Ryda is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Szpaczynski wants to control but Ryda is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ryda seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Szpaczynski does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ryda blocks the strikes from Szpaczynski.
Ryda is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Ryda wants to control the pace but Szpaczynski is squirming around nicely.
Ryda connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ryda pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Szpaczynski tries to reverse the position but Ryda maintains control.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Ryda connects with a body shot that sends Szpaczynski's belly button to the back.

Ryda fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Szpaczynski sprawls well initially but Ryda persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Szpaczynski tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Szpaczynski is looking to improve his position.

Ryda seems to be looking for submissions.

Ryda is pressing down on Szpaczynski's thigh, looking to free his foot. Szpaczynski is holding on for now.
Szpaczynski is looking to control Ryda's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Szpaczynski avoid being mounted?

Ryda decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Szpaczynski stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Szpaczynski wants it to stay on the feet.
Ryda gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Szpaczynski counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ryda's guard now.

Szpaczynski slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Ryda wants to stand and escape but Szpaczynski is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jacek Szpaczynski.
Ryda fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Szpaczynski has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Ryda doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Szpaczynski counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Szpaczynski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Szpaczynski looking to sit in guard and control but Ryda gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ryda stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Szpaczynski swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Szpaczynski looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ryda slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Szpaczynski seems a little lost for a moment, as Ryda dominates the positioning.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Szpaczynski is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dick Ryda.
I think Ryda has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
