Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Maginnis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gennady Vieira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gennady Vieira has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Maginnis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gennady Vieira!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maginnis fails in his attempt to clinch.

Maginnis tries to sprawl but Vieira drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Vieira is trying to control. Maginnis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Vieira content to control rather than advance.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Vieira looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Vieira moves into full mount! Maginnis won't be happy about that!

Maginnis blocking the ground and pound.
Maginnis squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Maginnis suckers Vieira into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Maginnis is now in Vieira's guard!

Maginnis won't allow Vieira to get back to his feet.

Vieira escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maginnis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Maginnis preventing the sweep.

Vieira not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Vieira wriggles free and stands up.

Vieira gets a takedown into half guard.
Vieira content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Vieira wants to take a breather but Maginnis is having none of it.
Vieira trying to control the pace.

Gennady Vieira has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Maginnis shoots in for a takedown but Vieira shows good takedown defense.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Maginnis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Vieira tries to bum rush Maginnis with a series of wild strikes but Maginnis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vieira is defended easily by Maginnis.
Maginnis wants to clinch.

Maginnis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Maginnis working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gennady Vieira dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Maginnis tries for a takedown but Vieira circles away easily

and Vieira counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Vieira.
Vieira jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Maginnis walks away with a smile on his face. Vieira gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Vieira closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Vieira goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Maginnis has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Vieira but great work by Maginnis.
Vieira tries to bench press Maginnis off him but Maginnis keeps the position.

Vieira throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Maginnis misses with a takedown attempt

so Vieira counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Vieira controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vieira wants to get up but he can't break Maginnis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Vieira slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gennady Vieira was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Maginnis with a poor takedown

and Vieira counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Maginnis's guard now.

Vieira must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Vieira wants to pass the guard but Maginnis is keeping the position.

Vieira gets to his feet - Maginnis follows without any prompting.

Vieira rushes Maginnis and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

Vieira's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Vieira wants to clinch up but Maginnis keeps it at a distance.

Maginnis tries to clinch up
and Vieira counters with a nice body kick.

Vieira forces Maginnis back against the ropes and clinches.
Vieira has Maginnis pressed against the ropes, preventing Maginnis from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Vieira manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Vieira looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Maginnis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Maginnis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Maginnis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gennady Vieira showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Vieira scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Maginnis to see if he's OK.

Vieira tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Vieira is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maginnis has escaped the position, nice work there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Maginnis is not content to let Vieira control the position.
Maginnis is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Vieira is controlling him well.

Vieira is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maginnis has escaped the position, nice work there.

Vieira has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Vieira tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Maginnis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Vieira fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Vieira misses with a jab, cross combination.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Vieira closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Vieira wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maginnis keeps working.

Vieira stands up and beckons Maginnis to his feet.

Vieira closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Vieira is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Maginnis gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Mike Maginnis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gennady Vieira is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Maginnis misses with a punch on the inside.

Vieira breaks from the clinch.

Gennady Vieira comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Vieira has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
