PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Torched Sonicboom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Torched Sonicboom!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sonicboom changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Miller looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sonicboom tries to advance position but instead Miller slips a leg back in to half guard.
Sonicboom is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Sonicboom throwing strikes from guard but Miller blocks nicely.
Sonicboom won't allow Miller to sweep him here.
Sonicboom looking to pass the guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Miller is on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sonicboom has an active guard here but Miller has managed to pass into half guard.
Miller is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Miller is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Miller is looking for a kimura but Sonicboom is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miller to get the leverage.
Miller performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Miller seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sonicboom for as long as he can get away with.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sonicboom can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jim Miller just wasn't active enough.
Miller misses with a few strikes there.
Miller avoids the head kick by Sonicboom.

Sonicboom looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Miller.
Sonicboom is looking for a sweep.
Miller is chipping away with strikes.
Sonicboom trying to remain calm as Miller controls from the top position.
Miller scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sonicboom to see if he's OK.
Miller creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Sonicboom takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Sonicboom looks gassed!
Miller content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miller works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Miller lands some shots froms side control.
Miller moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Sonicboom can't do much from the bottom here.
Miller controlling the position from side mount.
Miller in side control lands a decent elbow.
Miller in side control, just content to control the action for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Miller dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Miller fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jim Miller is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Miller throws the left hand but Sonicboom avoids the punch easily.
Jim Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Miller shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Sonicboom is looking to get to half guard.
Miller in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Miller tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Sonicboom is breathing heavily.

Miller quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Miller but it's paid off an Sonicboom is forced to tap! Nice work by Miller.
