Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cris Visser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Katto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cris Visser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Katto!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Visser has taken the fight to the clinch.
Visser putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Katto in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
A knee to the head by Visser.


It looks like Jon Katto has been cut.
Still in the clinch, Visser scores with a nice short uppercut.


Katto is rocked!
Visser lands a body shot.
Katto is still on wobbly legs! Can Visser finish him?

Visser pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Visser has closed the distance and engaged Katto in a clinch.
Katto seems to have recovered his senses.
Visser gets underhooks to prevent Katto's takedown attempt.
Katto goes for a takedown in the clinch but Visser prevents it.

Visser breaks the clinch.

Visser rushes Katto and presses him up against the cage.
Visser landing knees to the head.

Visser pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Visser looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Visser clinches with his opponent.
Katto wants a takedown but no success here.
Cris Visser has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Katto.

Visser pulls guard.
Visser wants to stand and escape but Katto is having none of it.
Visser trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jon Katto hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Katto moves in looking to clinch but Visser pushes him off.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Katto tries to sprawl but Visser drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Visser is breathing heavily.

Visser decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Visser fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Katto, pushing him back against the cage.

Visser wants to stand but Katto is controlling the position.

Katto wants to control from the top but Visser keeps moving.
Visser is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jon Katto hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Visser slows down the pace here.

Katto is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Visser gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Visser drags the fight down to the ground.

That's time! Visser's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Visser lands a nice leg kick that just misses Katto's sensitive parts.
Visser throws the left hand but Katto avoids the punch easily.
Visser throws a series of punches but Katto moves out of range.

Visser clinches up with Katto and pushes him back against the cage.
Visser misses with a knee strike.
Katto changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Visser fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Visser looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Visser perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Katto is trying to stand back up but Visser is controlling him

Katto slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Visser is looking to work some ground and pound but Katto has wrist control.
Visser engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Visser with a flurry of punches that miss.
Visser knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Katto on the ground.
Visser is looking to advance position but Katto has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Katto can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Visser is looking to escape.
Visser is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Visser is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Katto looking to control but Visser is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Katto is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Visser is trying to stand up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Katto wants to control the pace but Visser is squirming around nicely.
Visser wants to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Katto scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Visser is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Katto with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Katto is keen to just control but Visser is a slippery customer.
Katto is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Visser is trying to get back to full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jon Katto wasn't active enough on the ground.

Visser shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Katto napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Katto is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Katto makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Katto moves in looking to clinch but Visser pushes him off.

Katto trying to control the position from guard on top but Visser is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Visser wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Katto manages to pass to side control.
Katto wants to stand up but Visser has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Visser is staying active underneath Katto, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Visser is defending against the submission attempts here by Katto.
Visser is trying to stand.
Cris Visser is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Visser is looking to get back to is feet but Katto passes into side control.
Visser wants to get back to his feet.
Jon Katto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Katto has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

I would just about give that final round to Jon Katto.
Well Visser has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
