These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Makano!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Paton and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Knight drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Makano tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Makano keeping full guard, as Knight tries to pass.
Knight passes into half guard.
Makano tries to roll over but Knight keeps him under control.
Makano is staying active underneath Knight, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Knight tries to pass to full mount but Makano defends it.
Makano flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Knight tries to pass to full mount but Makano defends it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Makano can do anything to dispel that myth.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Knight bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Knight tries to move into full mount but can't pass Makano's legs.

Knight wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Makano, who protects the arm well.

Knight working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Makano parries the strikes from Knight easily there. Knight is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Makano to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Makano tries to buck Knight off but Knight is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Makano's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Knight wants to control but Makano is keeping him busy.

Makano tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Knight paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Knight shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Knight showed some decent athleticism there.
Makano is trying to get back to full guard.

Knight is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Makano doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Knight.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Knight wants to control but Makano is keeping him busy.

Makano tries to kick Knight off but Knight keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Knight looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Makano is trying to get back to full guard.
Makano is controlling Knight's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Knight tries to free his leg and advance position but Makano is retaining full guard.

Makano keeping moving, preventing Knight from controlling successfully.
Knight wants to pass the guard but Makano is keeping the position.

Knight thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Knight works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Knight is thwarting Makano's attempts to control the position.

Knight in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Makano tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Knight!
