Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Buhawi Baracael! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Tito Cruz! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Baracael lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Cruz has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Cruz and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Cruz waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Baracael. Cruz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Baracael was well out of range. Poor timing from Cruz. Cruz lands a jab to the head.
Baracael gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Cruz counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Baracael on the wrong end of a nice jab. Cruz throws a series of punches but Baracael avoids them all with ease. Baracael avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Cruz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Baracael tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cruz is in Baracael's guard. Cruz throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Cruz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Baracael is keeping the position for now. Cruz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz won't allow Baracael to sweep him here. Cruz throwing strikes from guard but Baracael blocks nicely. Baracael wants to sweep but no luck. Cruz is pushing down on Baracael's leg trying to pass to half guard. Baracael is fighting to maintain full guard but Cruz has managed to sneak the leg through. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cruz lands a nice short elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cruz lands strikes from half guard. Cruz is trying to control the action in half guard but Baracael is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Cruz landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Baracael is breathing heavily. Cruz throwing shots but Baracael is blocking nicely. Cruz is trying to control. Baracael wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Cruz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Cruz not landing any meaningful shots this time. Cruz is looking to advance position but Baracael won't allow it. Cruz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Baracael defending well though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Baracael keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Baracael avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cruz. Cruz drops an elbow to the side of Baracael's head. Cruz trying to pass the guard but Baracael defending well. Cruz slips a nice elbow through Baracael's hands, connecting with Baracael's forehead. Cruz is looking to advance position but Baracael won't allow it. Cruz working the head and body with strikes. Cruz wants to stand up but Baracael has a hold of him and won't allow it. Cruz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Baracael's head. Cruz scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Cruz slips a nice elbow through Baracael's hands, connecting with Baracael's forehead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz is looking to advance position but Baracael won't allow it. Cruz is looking to pass Baracael's guard but actually Baracael recovers to full guard. Cruz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Baracael's guard. Cruz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Baracael does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Baracael gets back to full guard.
Cruz working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Baracael's head. Baracael wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Baracael is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Baracael is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz throwing strikes from guard but Baracael blocks nicely. Cruz wants to stand but Baracael is controlling his posture from full guard. Cruz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cruz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Cruz is looking to work some ground and pound but Baracael has wrist control. Cruz trying to control but Baracael is working from the bottom. Baracael is trying to control the position but Cruz postures up. Cruz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Baracael is keeping the position for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tito Cruz dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Baracael changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cruz tries to avoid it but Baracael manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cruz to the ground. Cruz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Cruz thows a left - swing and a miss! Baracael fails with the takedown and Cruz counters with a stiff right hand. Baracael keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cruz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cruz fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz catches Baracael with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Cruz lands a glancing blow to the side of Baracael's head. Cruz connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
That's one minute gone in the round. A head kick by Baracael misses and Cruz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cruz misses with a wild body shot. Cruz throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cruz fails with the takedown and Baracael counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cruz's guard now. Cruz looking for a triangle here. Baracael is fighting it but it looks tight! Cruz pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Baracael is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Tito Cruz!
