Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Cabrera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Silva! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Cabrera looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Silva closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Cabrera did well to prevent Silva getting side control. Silva decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Silva throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Cabrera's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Silva dives in looking to finish as Cabrera flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Silva's strikes! Silva is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Cabrera's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Cabrera was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Thiago Silva!
